He’s not good and been on a slow decline since last year. Not to mention, he was ALWAYS going to be a place holder this year so the amount of surprise that I’ve seen from this is just baffling.

If Buffalo didn’t have Trubisky, he would seem to be a pretty decent fit behind JA. But that’s not how it is.
I think he’s an ideal backup. I don’t want to start a guy who I don’t know can throw the ball regularly, but if I need him for a few games, let’s ride those legs and get the most out of the arm. He still rushed for 12 TD last season. That’s worth something. I saw Houston thrown out there. What about ARZ?
Belichick and McDaniels riding the 5th QB taken in the draft. I don’t see it in Mac Jones to make him a first round QB, but I’ve not won 100 Super Bowls.
I’m a bit worried about NE. They got a lot of guys back defensively, addressed the receiving options, now have the QB they handpicked leading them. They were still 7-9 last year with everything. First taste of a losing season in decades for most people there. They’re gonna be hungry. The East will have 2 teams make the playoffs. Book it!NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

He's definitely not a starter any more but good lord, look at some of the backups out there. He is definitely a viable backup.Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.Comment

Feel like Watson's camp has to be pretty disappointed. Cam isn't great, but he seems like a viable stopgap for a team that perhaps has reservations trying to build around Watson with his legal issues still outstanding.Comment

My general thought about backups is "Can they do one thing decently well?" If they can, you can try to build your offense around it for a few games and hold on until the starter comes back. Cam can still run some option concepts and gain yards with his feet. If you were someone like Tennessee, I think you could survive 2-3 games with Cam if Tannehill went down.Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.Comment

Re: 2021 Training Camp/Preseason Games Discussion Thread
Cam as backup makes zero sense to me. Generally I think you want your backup to basically be invisible/anonymous, unless there is a serious competition between starter and backup. And if that's the case he's not really a backup.Comment

I like the idea of Cam to the Cowboys. I think he would actually be a pretty good backup behind Dak. For most teams, you don't really need a starting-caliber backup, but given Dak's injury history and Dallas's offensive style, I think Cam could fit pretty well. I doubt he'd be any worse than Andy Dalton was last year.Comment

Yeah, this is the mindset I’m taking. I would imagine any team that signs him will make it clear it’s to be the 2, not compete for the starting job.
QB’s get injured often. He has a decent chance to play in that case if he signs on somewhere. It’s not glamorous like being a Super Bowl starter was, but if you still want to play ball, not a bad gig. And when you’re just the backup, theres different expectations. There’s plenty of guys I’m happy to have as a backup but want nothing to do with them as a QB1.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Cam would be useful for a team with red zone issues. Put him in when you need to punch it in from the goal lineComment

Y’all think he’ll sign with a team as backup and there WONT be any noise about starting him or “using him in certain packages(which will then turn into “make him the starter)? There will always be noise with him because of who he is, so I’m not sure the “expectation” angle plays here.
This isn’t Garrett Gilbert or Ben DiNucci we’re talking about. Hell, if we were to sign Cam as QB3, there would be folks talking about “Maybe the Packers don’t feel that good about Jordan Love” compared to if we signed Jim Smith as QB3.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 2021 Training Camp/Preseason Games Discussion Thread
This is why I like Cam to the Cowboys, they have a younger QB who is clearly "the guy", but who also has had some injury problems, so having a good backup would make sense, especially if Mike McCarty is on the hot seat this year.Comment
