I was under the impression a second offense brought about an optional four game suspension and / or a fine but that a third offense resulted in the season long suspension. Can someone clarify this point?XBOX Series X Gamer Tag: Alsbron -
"NFL rules only allow commissioner Roger Goodell to suspend violators of the substance-abuse policy if they are two-time offenders. So the the rookie-year violation was Miller's second of the sort. A third offense would cost him an entire season."

Very disappointing.
I'm sure a high percentage of players smoke pot but know how to work around the system. Not that I condone it,I'm over 40 while most of these guys are in their 20's and still hang around with some friends they grew up with who don't have nearly as much to lose. That's where the stupidity of the player comes in.
We can't make up for that loss in production for 4 games. The first 2 we need Von especially.Opening against the Ravens is big for obvious reasons then playing the Giants at their stadium won't be easy. The Raiders and Eagles will probably be easier games regardless but you never know.Comment

The signing of Shaun Phillips is definitely big now. Is he Von? Heck no, not even close, but he can at least put up a solid rush that the other team has to gameplan for."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Yeah, I agree this is a possibility, and if it is the case, the dude is a freaking idiot. I mean, I already think he's not very bright, but if he tries to pull a "it's legal in Colorado" deal, he might be one of the dumber kids I have heard of. Company policy is company policy. You can't get high in the NFL. Wait until after your career is over and you are drowning in money to party hard. I was hoping getting rid of D.J. Williams and his "Dyme Lyfe" mentality would clean up the locker room a little, but honestly it sounds like the Broncos are just like every other team out there. There really is no difference between the Raiders and the Patriots, every team has these issues, just some teams are better at nipping them in the bud than others.
I am trying not to freak out and do a Chicken Little. Von Miller is an awesome player, I really love watching him play. This is very, very disappointing. You would think that if your team is the odds-on favorite to win a Superbowl and you are a crucial part of that puzzle, you might exercise some impulse control. On top of all of this, from what I heard, the NFL only tests for recreational drugs during a certain time of the year. Assuming that information is correct, why the hell would you use said recreational drugs during that time frame?
I've never understood why it take multiple offenses before action is taken. I can see getting a pass on your first offense, but why isn't that first warning enough? Throw in the fact that this is supposed to be kept a secret. Why? Expose these guys on the first offense.
I think everyone would be surprised as to how many NFL players use recreational drugs. But like you said, there is a known window where the likely hood of being tested for recreational drugs is very high (April to August). Still no excuse. Don't do it...especially if you have already tested positive a couple of times when YOU HAVE TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE GOING TO BE A TARGET FOR RE-TESTING.

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I'm really just taken aback about this for some reason.
There are a lot of players on the Broncos and throughout the league that I wouldn't have been surprised to hear this about. I guess my naivety fooled me because I really didn't expect Von to be one of them.

Probably not a lot, but could lead to a fight over details if the Broncos want to protect themselves from a future year-long suspension from someone who 'didnt do anything wrong' 3-4 times at that point.

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I am not ready to pile on Miller at this point. From what I am reading, this suspension is a result of a positive (recreational) drug test from 2 years ago. This was also being discussed privately by the NFL before it was leaked. None of us know, at this point, any real specifics of Von's situation. An appeal has been issued which could lessen or eradicate the suspension. If Miller is guilty of being a bonehead with multiple offenses of the league's substance abuse policy, then I will join in.
BTW, I don't believe the Colorado marijuana law was in effect at the time Miller tested (not that it makes much difference when talking about NFL policies). Someone please correct me if that is inaccurate. The Broncos just need to get out of the negative media spotlight for a while... that will be their first W.Last edited by TRC; 07-22-2013, 11:46 PM.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Player's can't be suspended for a first time offense so what happened 2 years ago happened again at some point (allegedly).Comment
