Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
We still do need help with linebackers imo. I dont know how well Dumervil, Crowder, Moss, or possibly Woodyard (I still think he's too light to play LB) will do. Count me in to be amazed if we see middle of the road on defense which I'll take. An average defense with our offense last year would have big a huge difference.Last edited by av7; 05-09-2009, 01:12 PM.Aaron

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
John Lynch, who briefly participated in the New England Patriots' training camp after being released from the Broncos last summer, supports new Denver coach Josh McDaniels, the former Patriots offensive coordinator, and is a big fan of new safety Brian Dawkins.
Lynch assessed the Broncos' busy and controversial offseason Thursday while wrapping up the 11th annual John Lynch Foundation "Salute the Stars" awards luncheon at Invesco Field at Mile High.
"I think the plan is starting to show itself," Lynch said. "For a long time, there hasn't been change here, and then all of a sudden there is a lot of change. And then people felt like they weren't addressing the things that need attention — the defense. They were tinkering with the offense, and ultimately we lost our quarterback, who was a stud. I have mixed feelings on that.
"But I like the fact that they're going after character players, guys that love football. That excites me."
About Dawkins, Lynch said: "Brian Dawkins is one of my good friends who I've had as much respect for as anyone, and getting him makes me really happy," Lynch said. "I think that defense has been missing (leadership). The best teams have multiple leaders, and you've lost Al Wilson and the void of myself, and they needed someone to come in and help guys like Champ (Bailey) and D.J. (Williams)."
Glad he mentioned that leadership is missing on defense, not a lot of analysts bring it up.Aaron

Shannon Sharpe added to the Ring of Fame
Shannon Sharpe on Tuesday became the 22nd member of the Broncos' Ring of Fame, and the first tight end to be elected. He will be honored at halftime of the home opener against Cleveland on Sept. 20.
Sharpe received the news in a phone call from owner Pat Bowlen.
"This is what makes this so special. This is your employer for 12 years, who saw you on a day-to-day basis, not someone who just sees the game or the finished product," Sharpe said in a phone interview. "To look up there and see John Elway, Tombstone (Rich) Jackson, Tom Jackson, Terrell Davis, Steve Atwater, Dennis Smith, and now your name is going to be up there beside theirs? What do you say to that?"
Sharpe was a Bronco for 12 seasons, a tenure that was divided into two stints, from 1990-99, and from 2002-03. In that time, he was beloved by fans as much for his colorful personality and competitive spirit as his production. He was also an unlikely success story as a seventh-round draft pick from Savannah (Ga.) State.
"Every time I go back to Colorado, I'm so well-received by the fans because they know I played hard, and they never had to worry about me getting in trouble off the field," Sharpe said. "I think they respect me as a person and as a player."
Sharpe ranks second in team history in catches (675), receiving yards (8,439) and receiving touchdowns (55) — behind only Rod Smith in each category — and held NFL tight end receiving records when he retired after the 2003 season. Sharpe was selected to seven consecutive Pro Bowls from 1992-98 while in Denver, and helped the Broncos win back-to-back Super Bowls in 1997 and '98. He was a finalist for induction in the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year, his first year of eligibility.
Former Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith was elected Tuesday to the College Football Hall of Fame as part of the divisional class of 2009 that includes players and coaches from Division I-AA, II, III and NAIA.
Smith played at Missouri Southern State from 1990-1993 and joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent.
He retired last year as the Broncos' career reception leader.Aaron

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
ESPN thinks Broncos will be a run-oriented team.
Reason to be optimistic: The running game should be strong. The team drafted Georgia's Knowshon Moreno with the No. 12 pick despite a crowded backfield.
It is clear Denver is going to be a running team after the Jay Cutler trade. It looks like Kyle Orton, acquired in the Cutler trade, will lead the offense, but the run will set up the pass in Denver.
New Denver coach Josh McDaniels said that Moreno can be a three-down back. McDaniels also said he believes Moreno can help the entire offense. Watch for Denver to try to incorporate veteran pickups J.J. Arrington and Correll Buckhalter and perhaps holdover Peyton Hillis into the running game.
Each player offers a different aspect to the offense. With a strong offensive line and good receivers and tight ends, Denver's offense has a chance to succeed. And it will begin with the run.
But then again, any team typically likes to set up the passing game with a good run...Aaron

Either way, I dont care as long as the defense still has holes. Only way he can fix this defense (right now) is with the offense scoring 60 like its a college game.

Brandon Marshall radio interview
On if he knew of any problems beforehand between Jay Cutler and Broncos management:
“I don’t know. I think we’re all just looking to move forward and get past that. I don’t know all the details on either end so all we’re worrying about is this upcoming season.”
On what new Head Coach Josh McDaniels has told him about the Broncos passing game in 2009:
“One thing he said was hopefully we’re going to have a lot of fun. With that, hopefully we put up some points. I think that if everybody buys into his system, which I think we’re all doing, I think we’ll be fine. Josh is a great coach and he’s got some hardware on his fingers.”
Brandon was asked how different McDaniels offense is as opposed to former Head Coach Mike Shanahan’s offense:
“Before was a lot of west coast, and now I think coach does a great job of just putting guys in the position to make plays and try and create match ups and take advantage of what the defense is giving us. Coach is very creative and I think everyone around the league sees what they (The New England Patriots) accomplished.”
On the Nuggets reaching the Western Conference Finals:
“The vibe in Denver is ridiculous right now. The city is just loving what the Nuggets are doing right now. Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith, Kenyon Martin, Chauncey Billups, man those guys are ballin’ right now.”Aaron

JJ Arrington cut
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos confirmed Thursday that they have released running back J.J. Arrington after he failed a physical because of a balky right knee.
Arrington was one of three veteran running backs the Broncos brought in during the offseason, along with Correll Buckhalter and LaMont Jordan. The team placed seven running backs on injured reserve last season.
The Broncos also selected Knowshon Moreno with the 12th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft in an attempt to bolster their backfield.
Arrington signed a four-year deal worth about $10 million in early March. He figured to be a third-down specialist for the Broncos, a role similar to the one he played last season for the NFC champion Arizona Cardinals.Aaron

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Looks like the backfield is shaping up after all. My guess is Hillis will move back to fullback with Jordan as the main backup to Moreno. Since he's a rookie, there should be plenty of touches for Jordan and Buckhalter. If the kid is so good he has to play, I doubt anyone would be complaining. This should be interesting.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I am getting real tired of this:
Brandon Marshall is an unofficial holdout.
The Broncos' star receiver is hoping to force the team to restructure his contract by moving his rehabilitation away from its Dove Valley headquarters this week while the rest of team is practicing at passing camp.
Marshall delivered his request for a raise last week to Broncos coach Josh McDaniels. Given the uncertain future created by Marshall's off-field legal and injury issues, the Broncos are not willing to redo his deal.
This doesn't seem to be too serious, but to me its like when I keep driving my ball into the woods off the tee. After a couple of times I just lose all desire to go searching for them anymore.Comment
