    Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

I have a feeling we'll still see the nickel with 3 down linemen this weekend.

I looked up the RBs for Denver
YPC (Averaged between 3) is 4.96, not bad at all

    Pittman avg: 3.5 (4 TD)
    Hall avg: 4.9 (0 TD)
    S.Young avg: 6.2 (1 TD)

For the game against TB, I expect them to play well against the run as they held Ryan Grant to 20 yds on 15 attempts. With the fumbles we had last week, I'm expecting alot of rips at the ball.

    Prediction: 24-14 Bucs

Yeah. DJ is a beast, and if we get more pressure on the QB, I bet Champ and Dre would make more plays at the CB position. Once again, we have the athleticism, yet we fail to use it.

It was a deceiving 139 that they gave up. It wasn't in big chunks. The defense played better overall. They blitzed a lot more.

I agree, Pittman deserves a start. I still like their rb rotation. I think they need all three. I would like to see them run the ball more effectively. 26 carries and 106 yards is not.

Ya it was weird to see the stat sheet after the game. The defense did well limiting the big plays. Sacks were extremely nice to see this week. LB's are flying around and wrapping up to finish off a tackle.

Cutler was frustrated at the start but I'm glad he didnt force any throws. Bates' call near the end of the agme made me . 1st down we run, 2nd we pass (clock running) but on 3rd and short we pass again which stops the clock.

How about the oline. 2 sacks given up this year, only behind Kerry Collins who's been sacked 1 time.

In other news, Scheffler is hurt.. again. Groin but who knows if he'll miss game time. We might have to start looking for another TE if he cant stay healthy for a full season.

Royal has a low ankle sprain so hopefully he'll be ready to go vs Jaguars. Stay off the ankle and limited practice.

There's no excuse when Torain gets back for our run game to be watered down. We will have a fresh back to run every down, that has to wear most defenses down

Royal is said to be out at least one week, possibly two.

Jackson still starts at TE? Can he not catch at all?

Bummer on Royal. Cant rush him so he's gets back to 100%. If he misses 2 weeks, he'll have 3 full weeks to get better as we have our bye Week 8

Jackson doesnt start, I believe he's listed #3 in the depth chart but he'll be getting looks Scheffler would normally get. He's a good target so it's not a major loss besides Cutler being comfortable with Scheffler

Yeah I don't think they want to mess with Stokley so Jackson should fill that spot. I don't know how much worse his skills have gotten but for what he should be asked to do, I'd think he'll fill in fine.

OK, you lovable knuckleheads. Pop quiz. And here's a big hint: For all these questions, the right answer is the same.

If the Broncos need a running back to punch the football into the end zone, who is the best man for the job? When Denver wants to get physical on offense, whose number are you gonna call? At crunch time, which tailback can put a big-dog hurtin' on the defense?

                        Isn't the answer obvious?

                        Michael Pittman.

So now for the tough question:

Why isn't Pittman the starting tailback for the Broncos?
"This 33-year-old guy still has a lot of juice in him," Pittman said Sunday, after Denver defeated Tampa Bay 16-13 in the kind of football he was born to play.

"I'm just waiting to get my opportunity to run the ball 20 times.
. . . I want to run the ball. But I would never go to my coach and say, 'Give me the ball! I want 20 carries!' "
The push for Pittman gets stronger to get his start. Might as well give him a shot

It really isn't a big deal for him to get the start, really, after thinking about this. The Broncos will not want to start feeding him the ball 30 times a game. He needs to be part of the triad of Hall/Young/Pittman. The greatest compliment to Pittman is that he gets the ball in the tough situations, on short yardage, and on the goalline. He does need to get the majority of carries, but there is no need right now to overwork him.

I still think it's better that Shanny has more than one "feature" back because it makes them compete more especially each and every time they touch the ball. Pittman is probably the best goal line back the Broncos have but even in Tampa they used Allstott a lot to give him some rest.

I think the best example of what they'd like to have is the Steelers with Parker and Bettis. I guess Young isn't doing his best Willie Parker impression so far. Maybe Torain can pick that role up when he's healthy.

With Pittman, I think he can set the tone early on and then help setup our bootlegs. Despite if he gets a start, the other guys will get the same touches anyway. I just think the order needs to be reworked

I'll be interested in how Torain takes over and who is left out. I have a feeling it'll be Selvin with his missed opportunities (slipping). I dont remember if Torain had been doing good with pass protection?

Shanahan would run the punter if he needed to so who knows
