With franchise tags, no one is really getting high-level FAs.

If we were sitting on $30M in cap space and a Jimmy Graham was available and we didn't pursue him, I'd be mad.

Let it play out. Idzik never said he was going to be a big spender in free agency.

Jets also signed CB Dimitri Patterson. Had 4 picks in 6 games last year before going down for the season.

Some UDFA's I think the Jets should give a call.

          Adrian Hubbard, LB, Alabama
          Colt Lyerla, TE, Oregon
          Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers
          Loucheiz Purifoy, CB, Florida

I give the Jets a solid B on the draft.

And thank goodness we didn't get Marquise Lee.

            Pryor, Amaro, Boyd- A
            3 WRs- B
            OL- B
            DE- B
            ILB- B
            OLB- C
            2 CBs- C

Technically, only one Day 1 locked-in starter in Pryor.

But much needed depth across the board, especially at WR.

Future starter at TE (potential star). And I can see the ILB eventually taking over for expensive David Harris.

Stephen Hill's a goner. And Saunders will eventually replace Kerley.

Here's hoping their gamble on McDougle pays off. Kid is only 5'10 and they say he's more of a slot CB. He looks physical but who knows. I'm sure that of today he's better than Kyle Wilson.

How's my fellow Jet's fans expectations going into the season so far? I'm hoping Geno actually improves here and plays well.

If Geno can cut back on the turnovers, and just improves even a little, the Jets could make the playoffs as a wildcard.Of course, that's assuming the defense plays well like it did last year.

Re: Official New York Jets Thread

                  No clue.

Geno took way too many chances on deep balls last year (you know Marty likes the deep ball). Our WRs were terrible but that's not an excuse for Geno's poor decisions.

I don't think any of our WRs can get separation this year. Ford and Saunders are burners but I don't think any of them see the field.

Amaro is a matchup nightmare. If we just give him some space he can catch a good 60+ balls in this offense. Not a LB that will be able to deny him 5-10 yards out and especially not down the seams.

I don't think Chris Johnson is healthy. I sure hope he is but I just need to see him in action.

Our D-line is the strength. And if they can get some pressure on the QB without. Rex having to scheme up some exotic blitzes, maybe it gives our DBs a chance to get some picks. We struggled getting INTs last year. Brady, Tannehill and Manuel don't scare me collectively. But any of the can potentially have a field day against us.

I'm hoping for 9-7. Upgrades at WR and Geno's progression hopefully gets us one more win than last year.

But you never know. I could easily see 7-9.

I just hope Smith doesn't turn into Sanchez 2.0. That said I also don't want Rex threatening his job every time he has a few bad games.

Re: Official New York Jets Thread

Observations from Week 1 preseason vs. Colts:

-When is Rex going to wake up and realize that Darrelle Revis is no longer on the team? This stupid Cover 0 blitzing is so stupid and leaves us susceptible for giving up huge gains through the air.

I'm sick and tired of it.

The front line is talented enough to get QB pressure without these exotic blitzes.

It makes me sick to watch this year after year and 3rd down after 3rd down.

-I don't see us having any consistent success with the run game. Either stick to one main RB (Ivory) or abandon the run completely. There's no 3-headed monster. RBs and offensive linemen need consistency.

If Johnson or Ivory is that guy, just give them the ball and make them the featured back.

-Geno will be okay if the OL can give him some time. They looked bad on blitz pickup.

-If Amaro can get it together, we'll be a force because LBs can't cover him. Perfect guy for 3rd and short situations.

-Decker looks solid. I'm sure he'll get shaded every game because our other WRs are still so subpar.

I'm thinking Ivory and Johnson will share time, can't see Powell getting on the field too much unless there's injuries.

Tough break with the CB injuries. Hopefully they are cautious with Dee and don't let this linger throughout the year.

I agree with the RBs. I just think the team needs a feature back. Let the guy get warmed up and wear out defenses.

That's hard to do when they're basically relegated to being change of pace backs.

The CB situation is a disaster waiting to unfold. Rex is too stubborn to put in changes to his scheme by playing more zone.

His agent apparently called Idzik on Saturday and told him that Patterson was physically fine. Unfortunately, he never confirmed Dimitri was mentally fine. Hopefully he's doing alright.

He's been suspended indefinitely. I heard on WFAN he wasn't happy about his place in the 'pecking order'. If that's true, Idzik should cut his dumb azz ASAP. But the Jets are desperate at that position, so I doubt it'll happen.

Imagine if any of us pulled that wack s**t at our jobs.

Re: Official New York Jets Thread

In retrospect, Idzik was way too conservative with the cap.

Not saying he should've thrown money at Revis or DRC because those moves would've compromised what we could do.

But not even giving looks to guys like Brandon Flowers when he was available has hurt us.

You can't do anything about injuries.

But it's one thing to have depth. And it's a totally different thing to have depth just for the sake of having depth.

We put a lot of stock in the draft which is fine. But when you have so much cap space, fill certain "need" roles if you have the room. We had the room.

We're looking at Decker, Kerley, Nelson, Salas, Gates, Hill, Salim at WR?
                              This isn't plug & play.

I like what Idzik is trying to build. But loosen up on the wallet just a bit.

Pay Mo before he goes out there and gets injured or something.

We went from one extreme of ridiculous spending and poor scouting with Tannenbaum to no spending and suspect drafting with Idzik.

We'll see how it plays out. But for having 12 picks I believe and half of them either injured or cut when he said he wanted to build the team through the draft is just absurd.
