The good news out of all of this is that if boredom DOES set in, there out to be several used copies available at a price that I WOULD be willing to pay for a partial game. I have already seen it selling (not listed, actually selling) on ebay for $50-60 Canadian. The game is currently in stores here for $69.99. With my province's 13% sales tax that means people are already dumping the game for a $9-19 loss and it is not even a week old. Hopefully this trend continues. By Canadian Thanksgiving (early-mid October) I suspect it will be discount by $10-20 in stores. By holiday shopping season (mid to late November, I suspect another $10 drop. I should be able to snag a copy for about $40 mid way through the NHL season.

Re: Shouldn't We be COMMENDING EAS NHL 15?

I think it's an odd gaming world we live when gameplay becomes not the first and foremost important part of the game. I preface this with saying I have yet to purchase the game (more on that in a bit), but I have played the demo extensively. The gameplay, imo, is much improved. Even ignoring graphics and presentation, the basic foundation of any video game is not modes or frills, it's base game play. They fixed that to a good degree (it's not perfect, so the obligatory "well the CPU still..." need not apply since I'm not claiming perfection). To me, if the base gameplay sucks then who cares what else you can do if the game on the ice is horrid? Modes just give you different ways to experience that on-ice action.

I haven't bought the game quite yet because I'm waiting for the patch. With the patch, and the improved gameplay, and maybe a small sale, I'll buy the game. Because at that point, the game will be totally worth it. It's good on the ice for the most part. Probably the best on-ice game we've seen in years, considering the whole on-ice package.

I understand disappointment with lack of some frilly modes, but how many of us truly play things like a tournament using the SM-Liga? I never wasted my time. The BeaPro loss of sim-to-next-shift and playing the minors mean's it's a busted mode, but I rarely dabbled in it, myself. EASHL is a loss, and disappointing, but not a game killer. Plus, if they ported over gameplay, who cares if a lot of these modes were still around?

Re: Shouldn't We be COMMENDING EAS NHL 15?

Thanks for the comments, I love being able to bounce around the viewpoints and opinions one to another so we learn a whole lot more about something than we did coming in. I multiquoted some of the points made that I wanted to respond:

My question is what does it matter? Why are so many people hurt that the game is not being as received as well if they like it? Serious question.

It almost seems as though people are hurt because the game gets negative reviews or that people point out a flaw in it. It is an opinion and you cannot be "wrong" no matter how you "feel".

If I live in a trailer and drive a mo-ped to work everyday and I argue that I am happy in life and I love my life then I wouldn't be wrong. And I shouldn't look to others to justify how I feel about any of it. Why would you do it with a video game?

I feel as though people take things too personally with opinions going against theirs. As if they need to justify their thoughts on something with the approval of others. If you love something then enjoy it and don't let anyone tell you that you are wrong. But don't preach to the others who are not as happy with the same things in life either. You will waste a lot of time and end up miserable yourself. It is not as if others liking this game will all of the sudden mean it is actually better or worse. It will not mean that you have more people to play with or against, especially with the modes that are in the game. And it shouldn't matter to you what anyone else feels if you are happy with the product.
I'm certainly not crusading for or defending NHL 15' and I get encouraged when seeing people leave honest negative views about a game. But the part that annoys me to a high degree is barrage of reviews addressing what was already understood before purchasing or should have been. B

Logically from people who paid $60 for it, when searching for a review I expect to see some information about it that was not already common knowledge before the game even released.

I choose the good gameplay/ play now only EVERY.SINGLE.TIME....

For the first time in ea nhl I saw the cpu execute a 2 on 1 properly....wasn't a goal but it was perfection. To me that ONE play is worth more than 10 GM drafts and 32 shiny goalie helmets.

That's not even mentioning proper power play set up by the CPU....we've asked this for a long time and it's here.

most goals cpu score on me are not one.timers...maybe 1 every 10 goals. u have to.close the gap, if not they will take it, just like any team in the NHL would....

but the cpu has scored rebounds, point slappers, 5 hole wristers, even skate deflections.

NHL 15 has good gameplay...solid....not awesome but a significant improvement over nhl 10-14.

I definitely also saw the cpu coordinate a sick 2 on 1 vs me. Thats almost what prompted me to even write this thread. This game has something a little extra. And when I look at compared to fifa it has sadly begun to pull ahead just a little bit it appears.

              - new and awesome GRFX
              - Improved gameplay
              - slightly improved AI (defenders are STILL clueless...and so are goalies)
              - Awesome presentation (minus the PBP)

              The bad:
              - Game is obviously a shell when compared to the last 3-4 iterations
              - still seeing some a lot of CPU cheese (come-back crap goals)
              - missing EASHL
              - the new pbp is pretty horrible...lots of dead air
              - missing season mode
              - you can only use non-NHL teams in play now and not is season mode
              - no international tournaments
              - no player editor
              - no create a team
              - create a player has reduced options
              - STILL no game face option
              - be a pro is rendered unplayable
              - be a gm is lacking some pretty important features such as the draft, the minors ETC...
              - very limited online experience (for those who dig that sort of thing)
              - more minor stuff that I don't recall and don't want to type out.

add to that that they took 2 years to produce a 1/3 of a game and they sold it to you at full price. If I was to produce more bad than good at work, do you think that I would be commended? You and I both know that the answer is no. To me (a life long EA NHL series guy, own every game since NHL 94)this game is an insult...it insults my intelligence and my wallet. I am expected to pay full price for an unfinished product? And on top of that, the cloak and dagger approach they took to information regarding this game is insidious at best. They were deceptive with the information that they put out and they placed an embargo on game review sites to not review the game pre-release. That says it all to me. They were trying to pull a fast one on us.
I definitely agree, regardless of market retail value or any other factors for a game, a game missing this much of what is expected to be present should be marked down in price just out of respect to the consumer. But thats also not how the law of capitalist business practice works either, they honestly have no choice but to sell at $60 and I ultimately understand. I have no problem catching them on a good sell and hopefully end up paying half price for it.

I have the same plans you do, but I still commend them for taking the dramatic step to place their priorities where they apparently have placed them. I do anticipate some good bargain sales to come from this title soon and I won't be sorry for taking advantage of them.

Basically I've not noticed it being abnormal yet. I have noticed though the jersey taking for more realistic deflections off of a player because of the uniform being layered and on top of the players actual body. It creates some interesting moments. In fact I can't wait to load the demo in now to see what it has in store for me this time.

Re: Shouldn't We be COMMENDING EAS NHL 15?

The last NHL game I played was 12, as I usually skip every other year for the sports games I play. So I skipped 13 in anticipation of 14 coming out at PS4/X1 launch only to be disappointed to wait another year. Then when I heard about about the many missing game modes or even scaled back, I was upset. When it comes to online gaming I pretty much exclusively play the team games. I also up to this point really don't care about HUT, although I may check it out with the free credit since there isn't much else to do. Other than that Be a Pro is what I'm most interested in, but even that mode is scaled back.

That said, after having not played since 12, the game play here feels amazing compared to previous games. That, on top of the $25 GameCenter promo made the game worth it at $60, since I would be getting GameCenter anyways. Of course I'm still greatly disappointed in the missing modes, but hopefully we'll see some added through patching.

Is the gameplay better though? Is it really that much better? Just asking because ive noticed legacy issues and here I thought the game was built from the base and up.

The improvement in game play makes my $60.00 expense worthwhile. I will be frustrated when I have to make every roster move through my team to try and keep them current, or maybe I won't bother unless my team is involved. In any event, with the exception of rampant goalie interference penalties this will keep my occupied until MLB15 arrives next spring.

Hate to admit it, but i hated paying $60.00 in the past for all those 'modes' that i never intend to play or use. This thing needs to go from this base of gameplay, tweak the improvements and implement rule changes as needed, and then sell it to us at $50.00 for the ability to play season mode with player/roster editing and control, and then charge $15-20 extra for those who want to Be a Pro, or Be a GM, or Be a whatever and pay to download and play those modes as you wish.

That is true because offline players are paying for online features but I'm sure they probably need the money in all to operate the servers how it's needed. Idealistically that idea would be very fair though.

Perhaps in the future though, we could see games like these selling an offline and online version. That would be a groundbreaking idea.

And yet here you are, still paying $60 for a game without those exact same modes. You didn't get a price drop, you just simply lost any extra potential value that may come from the game. Even if you NEVER try any of the modes given to you, the simple offer made it a generous deal of value. That's like saying "how dare you give me free french fries and a drink when I only paid for a hamburger! Never mind that it didn't cost me anything extra and I don't have to eat it if I don't want to, I just wanted a hamburger!"

I was an offline gamer in EA NHL for a long, long time. For years actually, I played Be-A-Pro exclusively when the introduced it back in 09, after only playing Goalie Mode in 08. I didn't play out of the crease until NHL 11, and I didn't touch EASHL until NHL 13, where I found some EA NHL friends from the first GM Connected league on this very site to start a club with. We've all grown so close over the past two years playing that mode and going to war together, I can't imagine not gaming with them in some capacity ever again. So while we are devastated by not having EASHL in new-gen NHL 15, most have simply decided to pass in favor of games like Destiny for the time being, games that allow us to still foster our brotherhood bred in EA Sports hockey. My point in that story is, I didn't see any value to EASHL at first, but I did eventually give it a try, and I wouldn't have been able to join the club and find such great camaraderie if EA made me pay extra to access a damn mode.

I think this years debacle takes the cake in EA blunders, even Madden never went this low in terms of selling such a bare bones game for full price. Just sucks, I was more excited for hockey this year than any other game.
