Here are my two biggest things:

    1. Why can the CPU so easily get the puck on the boards? I'm sitting there trying to get it for 5 seconds while it's bouncing and the CPU zooms in and scoops it up.

    2. Why do my guys not break up passes?! The CPU has no problem breaking up my passes but when they pass through traffic it goes through 99% of the time.

I would also like the ability to play random games from the schedule around the league if I want to from time to time.....sort of like a sandbox Franchise mode option or something like that....So I dont have to play all 82 of my games with just one team. Sometimes I crave the ability to play a random game on the schedule that has 2 powerhouse teams going head to head to take a break from my own team......Why cant we do this like we can do this in other sports games like the Show
As far as i know, EA hasn't really acknowledged any of the criticisms. It will be nice to see when they start development of 16 if they say "We heard people were not happy with x" but i don't much expect it unless they flip some of the current staff...

Perfect example of why this game is complete trash and lacks all logic:

Playing a guy online that is not good by any means, but the game helps him every chance it can of course.

I am killing a penalty and I manage to barely clear the zone. He gathers the puck near center along the left boards and starts to bring the puck towards my blue line. Wham! I level the guy. Injuring his player on the ice. My guy scoops the puck up and is on a breakaway.

I get to the other blue line and am about to go in. Nobody within 2 lines of me on the ice! He accepts the automatic fight option that pops up to "defend" the injured player on his team.

MY GUY STOPS... ON THE BREAKAWAY...WITH THE PUCK AND TURNS AROUND and engages someone at center in a fight!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is in an online, ranked game, mind you. And this is something that has been in this for years now. How is that hockey?!?!?

Why would anyone waste their f'n time with this trash? Yet here I am, every year.

Get a clue, EA! This is purposefully programmed into this game. This is what they think happens in the NHL, apparently. This is simulation style hockey, folks. This is the only "hockey" video game on the market and each year nothing changes.

Torts or pretty much anyone would have that guy down in the AHL faster than you can say "unrealistic."

Would certainly need to add the videos posted in this thread to this post to help illustrate some of the major flaws within this series.

Good list as well as the comments from others in this thread. I couldn't agree more with the majority of posts. This is still my most played game currently.

Also, I realize the above story annoyed you at the time but I'd have laughed it off. Those things that happen in games should remind you that it's only a video game. Imagine if that ever happened in the real NHL and how hilarious that would be to see happen on the real ice.

It's like this guy I played once online that would shift to control his goalie and come out and try to body check my rushing players. Of course it wasn't a sim style of hockey but it created some pretty hilarious moments. Just enjoy the fact that this a game sometimes and realize it can get better but in the end it's only a video game. Don't take it so seriously.

I think you are missing the point. Sure it is a video game, but it is a video game that is supposed to represent and resemble ice hockey. None of what I mentioned or what you mentioned occurs in ice hockey. If I wanted a to write something off as just being a video game I wouldn't play sports video games.

I mean, if you could just knock the net off every single time your opponent was about to score, should your opponent just chalk it up as being a video game? Because the things we are mentioning are essentially the equivalent to that. Goalies shouldn't be able to come out and check a guy at the circles to prevent them from beating out an icing call, a ref would wave that icing off the second the goalie left the crease. They probably would also call interference on the goalie himself.

The things that I tend to write off as being video game, versus what happens in real life, are how I don't have to worry about losing an edge on unsharpened blades. The puck not taking funny bounces off of partitions in the glass. Or, perhaps a guy that would never fight being forced to fight by a user in the video game. Not things that are common sense and against the rules or nature of the sport itself. The second we start making excuses for a lack of realism in sports game is the second that we lost sports video gaming altogether. Might as well play NHL Hitz or something.

I think it would be more funny if he had accepted it, but being forced into those situations is annoying. It's like in NHL when they first added the players 'avenging' injuries, it's something that could be realistic if well done, but i remember playing I think it was the NHL14 demo, every single big hit turned into a fight. You couldn't go 5 minutes without having to fight, and it didn't matter who. Jonathan Toews? He's fighting every time. My awesome young rookie? Well, he's dropping the mitts too...nevermind that he's stepping to Ryan Reaves and the kid barely breaks 130 pounds, but he's game. In the NHL, a lot of the time when there's a huge hit, or an injury, the team mates of the receiving player often try to get into a fight. And it would be one thing if your fighting the player was voluntary, so if he had hit Y in that situation, and the guy controlling the player on the injured team hit Y and then the breakaway ended...but instead, the guy who had his team mate had all of the control, while he lost a breakaway with something he didn't elect to do.

The AI attacking you offline or online could be realistic if you A. didn't have to fight, and B. could get a penalty drawn. If I lay a guy out, and it's a clean hit, sure in the NHL i might get mobbed, but it shouldn't happen every time, and I should be able to not engage in a fight, with the increased chance of getting a roughing minor called against the other team.

EA's problem has always been ideas that start out as great ideas, and end up being headaches that either get abused, or just take away from the game. Board play was something that could have added an awesome layer, but instead turned into some suction fest, where guys could avoid checks by magically stopping on a dime and kicking a puck along. The AI is surgical with their foot passing, no matter how many guys are fighting for the puck, and your team mates are borderline useless when you get pinned, leaving you stuck to the boards behind the net while 2 guys from the other team mob you for the puck, and your team mates wait in front of the net for the pass that never comes.

Same story for tie ups in front of the net. What was meant to give the game that layer of grittiness in front of the net just ends up being some weird suction issue where defenders can literally stick on your hip, completely removing your ability to chase down loose pucks, or do anything, and i remember how the AI used to actively cross check you completely pushing you around, sometimes into the goalie who would then get a goalie interference call against your team if you shot while this was happening, or knocking the net completely off and stopping play. Again, cross checks and tangles happen in the crease...but you have no control. EA constantly executes things that are 50% executed ideas that could be awesome, but end up leaving you stuck trying to fight for control of your own player, or sucked into an animation that you can only watch. I can't count the number of times i tried skating to a blocked shot into the corner, only to have the AI d-man in front of the net suction into me, and start spinning around with me, while the puck sat untouched until the AI forwards moved down the boards to get it.

CPU gets up WAY too easily and quickly, to make some of the crispest passes known to man -- even after being hit by Erik Johnson, Dustin Byfuglien and other massive defencemen. When my players get obliterated like that, they are completely out of the play for 3-4 seconds. Unreal. And do not get me started on goalie play of the ELITE goalies who allow the softest goals to be scored.
