For instance, 3 guys are streaming Be a Pro right now in NHL 16.

        Re: offline gameplay??

Play by play seems unchanged and is terrible, just terrible. It's not even Doc's fault, it's the code. Not enough player names in the description makes it very generic. There are also way too many moments where there is absolutely no pbp.

The excitement is also way too sudden. There is no crescendo.

It's basically the same code since 2007.

While it's not a game breaker and is probably not easy to code it's still frustrating to see no improvement on this aspect of the presentation year after year.

            1) goalie intro is the same as last year. Not just talking visually but they repeated the same lines about the goalies. I guess Hiller is going to overcome vertigo every year....
            2) nothing new here but the goal celebration is just so damn disappointing.
            3) they said they added a lot of new commentary but I heard nothing new at all.
            4) goalie animations look exactly the same. I was under the impression they worked on goalies this year.
            5) would have liked to see the final game stats but I did notice not one penalty called.....looks like another year with this issue...Ugh
            6) Do the oilers do the salute the crowd stick raise just like the Rangers? or did they just decide to do this for all teams....
Bottom line. Between gameplay, visuals, and the commentary, I had to double check and make sure I wasn't watching a video from NHL15. Once more us offline gamers are left out in the cold with no attention given in this area outside of returned modes that should never have been removed in the first place. yep looks like NHL 15 to me. There are some minor differences that I can see, but for the most part....game is identical.
I would like to see gameplay from someone who plays real hockey tho...this guy was averse to taking faceoffs and playing any D at all.

Here a few of my questions and thoughts.

                I didn't buy 15 so I am going from xbox360 EA14 to xbox 1 EA16.

For offline play the real immersion comes in between whistles with the camera showing crowd and music. Is there much variety in that. Since Xbox1 doesn't have the ability to add your own music by team/arena, does the atmosphere come out.

In 14, I was able to get a 60 -40 Ai penalty call mix (40% of the calls against the AI by adjusting a slider to relaxed) - can't remember what the slider was called)
Is the penalty call close to being even, or will it 90% of the time against your team.

well, im not sure what you expected the game to look like for 16. the graphics in 15 were very well recieved, so im sure most people here did not expect much of a change graphically. it looks beautiful.

the real change will come in how the game plays. keep in mind, NHL 15's GAMEPLAY was pretty damn good. player switching was bad and i expect that to have been addressed. going off the beta, the tweaks that i have noticed should make this game play excellent.
watching videos wont give you what you need. you have to play this game to understand the changes made.

                  looking forward to next week.

Until they build the game from the ground up you can expect the same goalie movements. There is a minor improvement in the commentating but mostly the same old doc. I just hope they fixed the controller lag that was evident in the beta, near impossible to play D.

I watched a few gameplay videos on youtube and I thought the commentary was much better... not as "wooden" as last years.

gameplay-wise is what I was talking about...not the visuals...I don't care about the visuals at this point. Also, to me the gameplay on 15 was pretty sub-par. The defensive AI was easily the worst I have seen in the modern era of hockey gaming. The offensive AI for the CPU was very limited and predictable....if you cover the slot, the CPU will not score. They refuse to take any shots unless they are primo chances, otherwise they just keep tyring for the cross-crease repeatedly.

Then we have your teammate's play...by Odin are they useless. they constantly take themselves out of scoring position (especially on odd-man rushes). I could go on but the game's shortcomings are very well documented.

                          yup.
                          i play offline.
wontvget the game again until they totally redo goalies.
game looks just like last year.
                          no neutral zone pressure.

never any offsides. pucks never go out of play.
awkward skating animations. awkward shot animations. goalies. yuck..
still looks like its not even worth trying to play d on the cpu.

                          no stoppages.

as for gm mode. no new stats. no highlites of other games. no player differentials. ratings suck.
if they didnt waste alk the time eith online crap. we would have a decent game by now.

The offline game does not impress me, based on these videos. The animations and AI movement look really strange most of the time. It's also disheartening to see the goalies still spend so much time on their backside....this isn't beer league.

From what little I've played of NHL15, and seen of NHL16, I'm having a hard time seeing anything that really looks different from NHL13-14. The physics of skating don't seem to have changed much, and the AI's ability to pickup on the on-ice action that they touted for NHL13 still doesn't seem to add up to much.

I remember being super excited when I got NHL13, thinking that the AI was finally going to start playing their positions well...but it really only seemed to be noticeable with the occasional forward going up ice early for a break...but that was about it.

I'm really hoping to see some AI improvements, but I get a feeling that if we were going to, they would have showcased it by now, as that would be a huge selling point for the offline crowd.

I'm worried it's going to be the same refrain as the past 5 years..."Maybe next season...". It's like the Blues have infected my favorite game series. I can't catch a break.

                                What actionhank said above.

In regards to AI goalies, they've regressed, in my opinion. In 13-14 the dev team ironed out the kinks to the point where goalies could read the situation and see backdoor opportunities. Now, they fall for the simplest forehand-backhand possible, on breakaways or on traffic in front of the net.
