You may be right on this. I tried it out and 2 power plays in the first 6 minutes but the skipping bug made me have to bail.

Just had a game where I went 2/9 on the pp and the cpu was 0/3. Key is definitely making use of the protect the puck button when you're up against the boards. Cpu will hack away at you trying to get the puck.

Penalties seem fine to me with all the pertinent sliders jacked to the maximum. Seeing a pretty good variety as well.

I didn't realize I had to try to start an online game for a new update to be downloaded so hopefully I'll start seeing some more!

That impossible theres not enough penalities in this game ! It even has two threads about it

Sarcasm and I cant wait till theres a new thread "too many penalties in NHL 16 "

But seriously if you balance it like MKharsh did or play on AS default there are penalties if you play real hockey and shield the puck and it works in any zone as other types are kinda programmed in from your reaction .

One note to take away from this thread - I must play "real" hockey.

Lol....yes there is one very enthusiastic individual around these parts but that's fine. For one he is right about the CPU taking more penalties when you control play and cycle. And two, his hearts in the right place and just trying to help. I think the point that gets missed is wether or not you play rookie, pro, all-star, or superstar. Default or tweak, play real hockey or arcade like. Penalties should be there. The penalty slider should do one thing and one thing only. Increase the amount of penalties or decrease the amount. For a few years now that slider has proven to not do much. That said, the first game I played with the update I had 5 PP including a 5 on 3 and the CPU had 4 PP. That's a good sign

Correct "REAL HOCKEY" ! just like if you play MLB and swung at 3-0 pitches down the middle and you popped it up instead of a HR you were thought you were entitled too every time

                              Re: NHL 16 Penalties?

New to the party here, and in the interest of full disclosure, I'm a massive fan of the game (both IRL and on the screen), but hardly an expert on how it's supposed to be played. I have noticed the lack of penalties over the years, but I don't get too bugged about it.

That said, I firmly believe the posters who encourage that in order to get a good mix of penalties, you have to "play the game right". Penalties should be a function of the circumstances surrounding play, not an artificial modifier like a slider, which if working the way most here want it to, will create a penalty out of context (i.e. it's time for another tripping, so CPU, go send the closest defender to the puck to the forward with it and trip away), giving the increase in numbers an artificial feel to it. To be honest, I've been to games and watched them on TV where there were only 1 or 2 penalties called. Others have been an abundance of sloppiness. You get what you get, just like with the video game.

Another of the better points I've seen relates to the time scaling of periods. If you set your time length to say 8 minutes, and get all the penalties you see in real life, you'll spend a majority of your shortened game time on the PP/PK (3 penalties in one period = up to 6 of your 8 minutes playing a real time PP/PK). Doesn't sound very realistic to me. So, if you want realism of penalties in the game length sense, you must go with 20 minute periods, and nobody has time for that (if you do, you should call your career counselor and move out of your parents' basement). Playing shortened periods will most certainly carry with it a diminished number of penalties.

Again, I'm nowhere near an expert on this subject, but some of the common sense things seem to be evading many if not most of the complainers. Fortunately, the one's who I do perceive to have expert opinion here appear to be spot on about this. I'd also like to agree with the THESHAMISASHAME, who has nailed it with "...I cant wait till there's a new thread 'too many penalties in NHL 16'." That's pure gold.

Enjoy the season, my friends. It's the best time of the year!
