    re: NHL 17 Wishlist Thread

Better control of who skates out when you have an extra skater would be nice. Or at least a revamp of the system so that the AI picks the person with the higher shooting stats. Last night, down by 1 with 1:30 left, I pull the goalie to get an extra skater...who comes out, but Steve Ott...(not entirely unrealistic, as Hitch has put him on the PP before). Whatever, not that bad. Anyhow, next line comes out, and who's the extra skater this time? Oh, scoring legend Brodziak...fine. I guess we should leave Rattie, Steen, Fabbri, and Parayko on the bench. Ott will do just fine.

As for player creation, an entirely new system would be perfect. Allowing for jersey templates to be downloaded and created would be great. If that would be paired with a way to create or edit the fonts used in game, players could easily throw together their own custom jerseys with programs like Photoshop, taking away the need for EA to worry about meeting everyone's demands.
International jerseys have been largely unchanged as far as I can tell from almost NHL07 Yeah. Looks like it. That Sweden jersey looks sadly familiar...thankfully, that goal scoring animation doesn't.

But, let the players have some control to create and share. It's the year 2015 (nearly 2016). Plenty of people have photo editing software, and the time and ability to create brilliant things. Look at the mod support for NHL 04. Some of the faces in the game look better than what we have now. At least Ryan Reaves would likely agree. Give us the ability to create jerseys, better looking player models. Let us have an in-depth editor like in The Show, give us the ability to pick things like various skating strides and things like that. Attributes control the player separation in game, but the animations and likenesses are what really set it apart when you're watching.

A jersey editor would allow people to take a template, edit it and upload it, and then copy it into the game. A proper editing system would allow for international tournaments with teams like Slovenia finally getting representation, instead of Great Britain...a team I have yet to see on TV...

The more control EA gives us, the better we can make the game. If they want to focus on EA's HUT, that's fine. Follow the money. Just don't handicap the rest of us offline gamers in the process.

Edit: By comparison, here's a mod for NHL09

1..Add roster and slider community sharing..

2..Let us set and save team/line strategies from the play now customize
section..Its a pain in the rear to have to set them before every game...

3..At least make the coaches to somehow resemble their real
      life counterparts...

Copy and paste from a similar thread

A few things I'd like to see:

Why do we only get to start BAP careers in the CHL or just go directly to the draft or an NHL team? Why can't we make a Swedish forward that plays in the Swedish Elite League and have him be able to start his career there, get drafted by an NHL team, maybe not be quite good enough so then he goes to the CHL for a year before being called up to AHL, then NHL? I don't think it would be logical for every single international kid at 15/16 to move to America just for the small hope of playing in the NHL one day. Even if the schedules were randomly generated instead of based on real-world, this would be fine with me. Otherwise, there's no sense in me wasting time playing with international leagues because nothing carries over to a career mode.

Custom PxP name maker. Take a snippet of two or more names and combine them together. For example, my name, Hodgkins, would likely never be included in this series. Why not take two names that probably are in there already, Hodges and Watkins, cut off the parts I wouldn't use, then stick them together. If done right, it would be hardly noticeable. I've seen this done before in other games.

Fans react to certain players differently. Montreal vs Boston is a great example of this. In Boston, PK Subban gets booed out of the building every time he touches the puck. Likewise in Montreal for Chara. This would add a great deal of realism. Maybe assign each team a rating similar to how it's been done in GM mode to gauge how likely a trade is with that team, then do the same for each player on the roster. This could be done also for created players in BaGM, and if they did it well enough, a newly drafted player that is relatively unknown to other teams that lays down a big hit on a star player will be remembered for that hit every time they play each other by both fans and players. Currently, playing rival teams in the game doesn't feel any different than New York Islanders playing Arizona, except from the commentary. This alone could make those games more physical and important.

They still haven't fixed the season goal totals on the broadcast side of the game. Score 10 goals in the season, but the NBC score overlay only shows the total for that game. Minor, but noticeable.

Make it a huge deal if a 10-year player is traded and comes back to play against his former team. Think of Jarome Iginla returning to Calgary for the first time.

Expanding on that, mention stats about players vs certain teams. Has Lundqvist shut out Flordia every game that season? Mention it. Show stats about hot players vs teams. I've only seen home and away records and points streaks, etc. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Let us customize goalie helmets. We can do it with pads, but we have generic helmets. Again, do a repository where you can upload "stickers" so others can download, if they want. Or just let us do it with a simple in-game paint booth. No reason we need to use Quick's helmet or a plain colored mask. Let us have fun and be creative. I understand licensing and people would make it offensive when given the chance, but it can already be offensive enough in online games. Or just allow them to be offline use only.

Roster share that actually works (looking at you, Madden). This way, we can make historic teams or make more accurate stats like we used to be able to have before they locked down save game sharing.

More/new penalties, but don't overdo them like when the new fight engine was released with '14. Add too many men penalty, and for Be a Pro, allow the option to make realistic line changes by having to time when to jump over the boards. AI needs to get more penalties than tripping and high sticking. Ejections from games for illegal hits (suspensions, too). I haven't been ejected in numerous games, not sure if it's still a feature at all. BaP option to play different position (switch from left to right wing or from Forward to Defense or vice versa). Request trades, negotiate contracts. Updated non-NHL arenas to be a tad more realistic. Varying crowd numbers, full capacity in Montreal, far less in Florida. Option in GM mode to relocate or add expansion teams. Personally, I'd like the Owner features from the Madden series Just add a commissioner mode instead of just GM.

Need to put more focus on gameplay, not game day presentation. The fighting sequence needs to fill more real and authentic. Have line brawls happen every once in awhile when things get really intense or its a rivalry game. Or if something happens have the A.I. remember it and try to get revenge. Continue to work on and improve the hitting. Have the coaches look realistic. If you're focusing on presentation so much then you might as well make it accurate. Bring the ECHL into the game and possibly the NCAA which could expand the Be A Pro mode. Work your way up for either college or juniors. Bring the HERO LINE back. Stack the lines at the end if your trailing and need to do what you can to give your team a chance to come back. Continue to work and improve on the skating, make it feel more real. Definitely need to change the Stanley Cup presentation. Have it where you can control the players skating around and handing it off to one another, coaching staff, etc. Have press conferences where you can answer questions and your answers will affect the morale of the team.

I like the way Eastside Hockey Manager did the player positions. You can move a player to any position, but it affects how well they perform. FIFA has a similar thing, where a player's attributes are affected by where they play. In Eastside and FIFA you can look at a player and see what their position is. In Eastside your forward will have an image of the ice with a player silhouette on the left side, center, and right side. Under those there will be something like "Unknown, Bad, Neutral, Good, and Natural". Generally guys who can alternate between C and RW for example would have C:Natural and RW: Good. Apparently in the game a player can have a versatility and some sort of learning attributes that will determine how possible it is to have a player learn a new position. Maybe something that could even be boosted with training. I could see if being something that some players just can't learn, like a rookie who just doesn't learn a new position well. Similarly, a veteran that has been playing something like the Right D would have a lower chance of learning the new spot due to them having played their entire career there.

But, it would be really nice to do something where you try to have a player learn a new position. So, we'll use the Blues for example. Assuming they keep everyone, they've got Pietrangelo, Parayko, and Shattenkirk all at RD. Obviously, if Parayko progresses like everyone hopes he will, that's 3 guys who are all good enough to hold a 1st or 2nd pair at RD. But, they're not equally as deep on LD. So, in game you could play Parayko at LD (Assuming he's not listed as "Bad" which would just hurt his overall progression and attributes, making him worse overall) and then over time he would move from say "Decent" when he started, and progress to "Good" with enough time and off ice training. He would likely always play better at his "Natural" position, but he wouldn't suffer any attribute penalties after enough time and training in the LD position.

This would make paying attention to your roster more important, as well as player signings. If you're trying to pickup a new RW, but he can only play that spot, and you've got 2 other RW that you can't bump down because they also can't play C or LW, then you'll have to decide what to do. If they work on the morale system, it could also work that veterans and star players (maybe players above a certain overall rating) would expect certain amounts of ice time. That's another idea that could be borrowed from FIFA. When you sign guys, they want to know how they're going to be used. If you tell a guy he's going to be a 1st line starter and regularly bump him to the 3rd line behind a hot rookie, depending on his personality attributes that player might get frustrated. Then if he's got enough pull in the locker room, it could lead to everyone suffering.

So many little ideas could have a huge affect on how fun and involved the gameplay in the game would be.

I want the option to hide the overall ratings on players, and more importantly a full roster editor. I would gladly pay extra for a full boat editor like NHL view or something. I really can't believe EA hasn't capitalized on this.

LAST CHANGE: cannot have a hockey Sim unless that bedrock strategic feature is in there on faceoffs.

CUSTOMIZATION for Season Mode: allow for variance in number of teams, divisional alignment, etc.

JERSEYS and TEAM CREATION: agree with previous posts .. just TeamBuilder that or let mods run with it.

A small gameplay related change I would like to see is being able to set your breakout strategy outside of the game itself. I also hate that cutscenes sometimes do not allow you to nake strategy adjustments during them - that is the one time I have to make those adjustments without pausing the game to do so.

NHL is by far my favorite sports video game and I would like to see the Winter Classic mode added to NHL 17. Another feature that I would like to see added is a create-a-team mode. Whether you can add custom players or only players on NHL roster doesn't matter, the first step in my mind is bringing this mode back. It would be awesome if you could create a similar system to Team Builder to create custom NHL teams.

Legends & classic teams like nba2k did

                          Total customization with vintage stuff

Improve gameplay (skating, net scrumbles, checks)

Seriously, what is new in nhl 16? In nhl 2k8 to 2k10 you have beards series, classic team, multiple collision physics, you can skate with the cup to celebrate, drive the zamboni, customize your player (from skates to teeth)... and it was 6 years ago. C'mon EA

Can you play co-op online (2 separate consoles) vs the A.I, or does it have to be 6v6?

My biggest wish (and has been for years) is to be able to edit players names so I can create classic rosters. Also classic equipment and ability to not wear helmet. A team rebranding like in NBA 2K16 would also be great.
