Low amount of gameplay posts here so far...
Is the game-play noticeably different/improved from last year? Never mind the graphics or features for right now, game-play...is it solid or not? I am not seeing many threads or discussion on how the defensive/offiensive AI, does it play a solid game of hockey?*GROGtheNailer*Tags: None -
Re: Low amount of gameplay posts here so far...
its better. but not by much.
biggest diffetence is the puck seems to be looser this year.
defensive ai will get their sticks in lanes better and deflect passes away.
that the only real diffrrence i can tell -

I think the cpu plays a pretty decent game both ways. I mean, it is just a video game. The best way to get an answer is to rent the game and see for yourself. That's what I did.Comment

Where did you manage to rent it from? I can't find it anywhere near me.Comment

I live in Arkansas in a town where few care about hockey at all...so it'll probably rarely be checked out...it was at a place called Hastings, fwiw.Comment

This is a pretty accurate summary. If you didn't like NHL 15's gameplay, then you won't like NHL 16's gameplay, because the improvements in that area are very minor, and all of the major warts still exist.Comment

The game to me is not Like NHL 15 in many aspects. The game plays pretty solid offline and will plain kick your butt if you don't play good defense, chip pucks out occasionally and actually hold the puck for defensive face-offs.
In general most haters still do not like the game and most who have liked NHL in the past like this game......but opinions are so varied...you really need to try the game for yourself.
We all have different game-play styles and what we are looking for. I give the game a score between 8.5 and 9 out of 10......others think it is a 7 at best.Former Bison, Argonaut, TSN and Sportsnet employee.

I also don't think the game is selling very well which also means less people have the game to discuss it.Comment

Feels a lot closer to a Gen3 NHL game, in my opinion. Still could use some tightening up, but having a thousand times more fun than 15.

Why do you say that? It's not going to sell like Madden and FIFA.. but I think this is a comeback year for the NHL series.Comment

I liked the gameplay of 15, despite a few glaring errors.
If you put this side by side with 16 I couldnt tell the difference. It plays a good game of hockey to me, and I do enjoy games a lot.
But the gameplay will need to be refreshed for next year.Comment

Re: Low amount of gameplay posts here so far...
I played a season + vs CPU last year and I will say for certainty the CPU is much much tougher this year both on takeaways as well as avoiding turning it over.
Setting up your offense is much harder as well as their poke checks are so unforgiving, i'm having a hard time adjusting so far after about 10 games+; just getting destroyed with my bad habits from NHL 15.
The high corners are totally gone vs cpu goalie too, you have to organically creating shooting lanes and make the goalie move instead of relying on the same top shelf corner now (RIP being able to score for me)
I think i enjoy it so far but still in early frustration level. Worth a play though, everything from last year is better.Comment

Yeah fair call. Nothing is really different, everything is just slightly more refined.Comment

I haven't played an EA game in forever. Personally, I am enjoying it. With the right settings the puck is extremely loose and there are lots of scrums and battles for possession. Puck control at 0 seems critical for that kind of game. And it works. I'm finally getting playing D and it is much more rewarding than any other EA game have ever played. If you work hard you can really tighten up the D and not allow many SOG which is a first for this series, that I have played.
It's not perfect but I do think it is the best hockey game to this point along with 2K8 and 2K10/11. I'm not quite ready to put it above those but I gotta admit it's pretty solid and may do so.Comment
