I'm not seeing any of this and have been playing since Tuesday. I've been keeping track and on Full Sim the penalty averages are 3.2 on me and 2.9 on the CPU.

Also have had a full range of 1-0 games up to a 7-5 game.

Way too early to say still, but initial impression is they feel more different than before due to the looser puck, but not as different as you may be hoping for.

You feel differences in puck control, shot accuracy and hitting but the NHL players are a bit too close skating (not speed, just feel).

Also - if you don't set up cycles in the offensive zone you won't see the proper amount of penalties against the CPU. If you rush up and down the ice then you aren't going to get realistic results (not saying anyone is, making an observation as I tried this for one game)

Agree. I def don't see a difference in the way each team plays as usual. Yes you can feel the speed of certain players and size difference. Also the difference in "toughness" while carrying the puck between a player like Kreider vs Zuccarello. I haven't upped the atrribute slider yet. Hoping this shows differences between players more.

The differences I see in team play are initial formations and power plays. But there is work needed on Team Tendencies (with game mechanics that aren't in the game yet) in player tendencies (again - things that aren't in the game and need significant development time and resources) to get the over that "Team Differentiation" hump.

Millennium, if you wouldn't mind at some point, could you test if this glitch is still in the game?

Thank you all for the time to document your observations (from yet another Rangers fan on this board). The Zuc/Kreider comparison makes sense to me.

Most of all, I'm hoping for a game I can play offline, that has some variety to gameplay, strategy, and experience.

I played NHL 16 near exclusively in EASHL drop in, and my wife was going to hide my controller if I vented anymore at the poor team defense/childish antics of my would be colleagues (as I play Left D). It would be wonderful to have an semi/offline mode (like NBA Live) I can sink my teeth into.

Oh, and shameless plug pre-launch for PS4 EASHL peeps looking for a 2-way Left D. Think Ryan McDonough style. PSN: OrngeAlum

                Thanks again everyone!

                      Re: NHL 17 Impressions

So, I rushed into a quick game this morning before work. Didn't mess with any settings, or sliders. Played a quick Play Now game, me as Detroit, CPU was Carolina.

Honestly, I couldn't tell a huge difference, but some of the smaller ones were noticeable. I won the game 7-1. There also wasn't a single penalty called. Not one. Maybe that's because it was set on Pro difficulty since I didn't have time to change anything. The CPU's goal was the typical miracle shot with about 30 seconds left that always seems to happen. So, the Pro difficulty may have some bearing on what I'm about to say below, but I'm not so sure, as I've seen it playing at higher levels in the past as well.

I like the player movements better. My player under my control, felt more like he was actually skating, on ice, and had weight to him. Took a while to accelerate, couldn't change directions on a dime, it felt good. However, the CPU players, I can't say the same for them unfortunately. The AI seems to want to have one player just chase the puck carrier. The same physics that seem to apply to your skater, magically don't apply to the CPU player giving chase. They cut and turn on a dime, with no apparent loss of speed. Very disappointing to see this still. Madden CPU players though seem to have the same abilities when giving chase. It's really the main issue I have with EA's AI. The human players movements feel and look good, but if you outsmart the CPU, the same physics just don't seem to apply. IMO, it's always been a big issue in this series.

Still relating to gameplay, there's some good stuff. Net battles look nice. The CPU is more aggressive going after the puck. I saw the CPU dump and chase several times. It's a bit more difficult to carry into the CPU zone, you've got to protect the puck more it seems, and I imagine on harder difficulties it will be even more so. So, I'm excited to get more into the game tonight to check out how it plays.

Visually, the game looks nice. We all knew and expected that. Nothing much to say here.

Audio seems largely the same. Goal horns this year are a nicer touch. Commentary is largely the same.

All in all, in my very brief experience... There's some nice new touches, there's some issues that have always bothered me, that still seem to exist. At least though, when you hit a guy, he doesn't just fall on the puck and end up getting up with possession again, they've cleared that up which is nice to see as well. I just wish the AI players had that same appearance of weight and physics effect them more like human players do.

That being said, nobody freak out about this impression, as I said, one game, didn't mess with any settings or sliders, and only on Pro as I was rushing.

I'm strictly an offline and mostly franchise player. I have decided not to stress over slider yet too much during the trial and just enjoy the game. I'm gunna spend the 3 or so weeks from game release to the start of the nhl season nailing down the most sim sliders possible. Maybe play thru the World Cup a few times with diff teams. One thing that hasn't changed and that is still a huge issue is player ratings. Sorry but here is yet another Ny Rangers example. Rick Nash is an 86(still good but not elite anymore, still a 1st or 2nd line player). Tanner Glass is a 78(career 4th liner/ahl player). How are they only separated by 8 points. Honestly Nash should prob b like 84 and Tanner should b like 60. I went in to play around with editing and I lowered all of Glass' puck related attributes and left his speed(he has decent speed) and hitting/checking alone and he plummeted from 78 to 65. This should b the way the game is shipped.

Haven't played more than Demos the last few years, but was thinking of getting this year's game. I got it downloaded after midnight and tried it out a bit and had some thoughts and questions...

                          - You can replace teams at the start of Franchise, not just thru re-locating. That's a major Plus to me and some others!

                          - Create a team isn't Great with no uploading logos or pre-built teams, but I like that you can color the logos how you want and stuff.

                          - Controls... Is there really not a speed boost when not using the complete skill stick controls. How dumb is that. It's not like there weren't buttons that it could be.

                          - Under edit players, you couldn't really edit them, unless I am missing something? What if someone unknown turns into a stud this year in real life. I guess they are stuck being no good on my Franchise...

                          - Found this really disappointing... I created a player and in my franchise he had a black cutout for his picture. In this day and age this is pathetic that there is no generated pic for him. So all players I create will look like this instead of having photos like other players.
                          - I didn't get thru a draft to see if their created rookies are the same way or not...

                          - EA seems to struggle with stats in Franchise. Why can I not just go to league leaders in goals and stuff. I only saw that I could see that if I went to my teams stats and scrolled all the way thru to entire league. Also, I tired to click on my player after I played a game and couldn't (no seeing his season stats and stuff). On nba 2K you can see league leaders easily as well as click on each player and get his career stats.

If anyone saw this stuff differently let me know (it was 2 am when I finished).

I'm disappointed you can't alter the World Cup rosters, It would have been fun to change the rosters a bit.

In my limited play through the game seems smoother and more fluid then previous versions.

I'm at work, can anyone answer these?

One, can we adjust team strats in main menu this year for each team? Or do we still have to just play a season and control all 30 teams to adjust those?

How many presets can we save with the sliders?
