yes you control the players. It's the name for the difficulty setting. They changed the naming convention this year. Consider it like last year's Superstar setting, only much much better.

I can also confirm the merged roster crash has been fixed, you can move created players from previous roster to a new roster.

They had a month to add the non-existing players and here I come all joyful and hopeful starting a new franchise career mode with Panthers. Still missing players. And Still have players not in the roster. And Matheson missing a picture for second season in a row.

I don't understand, aside from a contract being signed with a league or NHLPA why they can't get a roster set including photos updated properly. With all of the online resources we have today why is it such a difficulty?

Yep... it sucks mate. I was waiting to start a new Franchise Mode career today after a few weeks break, but I guess I'm back to Fifa. At least they update rosters on a weekly basis.

I really wonder why EA doesn't update player height and weight. NHL.com even lists Auston Matthews at 6'3" 216—it can't be a likeness and licensing issue can it?

I have a question about rosters. Is possible to play Season mode that updates the latest roster.

I always hated past generations, I'd start a season and end up with outdated rosters after grinding through 82 games.

Huge fan of the Full Sim setting. Puck physics are different, you can attack offense in different ways (last year you couldn't), dumping the puck matters (both to counter the trap and to manage stamina).

Net battles change the game for me (more specially the extended stick lifts now).

Best hockey game that I can remember (with the caveat that I play offline only in default Full Sim)
