I have been wondering the same thing, I try to go forward on the toggle to slap it and my player just holds the puck forward in a stick handling motion, kind of annoying

One thing they need to do is seperate patch and roster files. . So jerseys can be hooked to patch files not roster files. I know some of us like to use default roster and go work on it. But we cant if we want the updated jerseys.

I agree gameplay is good but presentation needs a lot of work. Amazing to me that EA doesn't take the best features of their games and incorporate them into others. NHl, FIFA, and Madden developers could make things so much easier.

I don't think so. There is an article floating around on the EA forums that was an interview with Rammer. In that article they mention having 250 people on the NHL team. I don't think it's a man power thing more than it's misguided priorities.

Sadly, I'm in that boat. I used to love coming here, but it gets old saying the same things every year, and I hate to harsh everyone's enjoyment by constantly complaining that I can't enjoy the game for more than 2 weeks before I get sick of it and shelve it.

I check in every now and again, hoping to read about all of these wonderful changes...but it's been about 5 years of hoping and wishing now.

The reason I don't buy the manpower issue is that while they are definitely smaller than the other dev teams, they made an incredible series at first when they released the first NHL titles that had revolutionary things like the skill stick and everything else.

My opinion is that EA's taken a lazy approach. Not that the Devs don't want better things for the series, but just like all of us...you do what the boss says, or you find a new job. EA wants focus on HUT? Then you focus on HUT. I'm sure the Devs have a laundry list of things they personally want, but at the end of the day, the people signing your checks decide.

Naturally, that's all speculation. But, I'm basing it on the way their social media carries the game. You can tell a lot about the company's focus from that. EA's NHL social media pretty much posts only online/HUT related things. Top plays, big hits, whatever. Even if the goals highlight fundamental flaws in their AI and goalies, it doesn't matter...because the people who are throwing their money at the game love the flashy goals, the bright pink skate runners, and the online competition.

I can be bitter about it, I can say the Devs don't care, but at the end of the day, EA seems to be heading where the money is at. Why worry about a bunch of people clamoring for offline realism and franchise features, when you can focus on way more people who not only bought your game, but are willing to keep paying you more money, and populate your servers, giving extra money through ads?

From an interview with Sean “Rammer” Ramjagsing over at cgmagonline, he says:

"CGM: How do you guys keep things fresh after so many years?

Sean “Rammer” Ramjagsingh: People ask that all the time. There’s no shortage of ideas, people always want more things to make the game more realistic, and to make the stuff already in the game better. It’s all great feedback for us and it’s our job as producers and designers to think outside the box, about things people aren’t already thinking about. That’s kind of where Threes came from when we thought about “how do we bring back in that more casual fan” that maybe is no longer as connected to the sport of hockey as they once were or feels like the complexity of sports games and controllers these days has maybe put them off a bit. How do we bring them back to just pick up the controller and have fun?"

And I feel that is the main issue right there. The "casual fan". The game was designed for the "casual" fan not the "hockey" fan. Plus, in another part of the interview, he said they had 18 months to work on this game and that it's been a "long time in the making".

Another interview I read he said they had 250 people working on the game.

There are no excuses for the bugs and glitches in this game.

I think for a relatively "niche" sport like Hockey, the casual approach makes sense. The frustration for a lot of people (like myself) comes when casual is the only thing you can do.

I'm fine with the game being casual, I just wish that I could make it play more like real hockey myself, and that things geared towards casual fans didn't come at the expense of realism every time.

But, that may be a pipe dream.

It's just like Madden, they don't make money on the hardcore franchise players, so they find ways to get people to buy the game, HUT, MUT, Threes, etc..

I do agree however.. fix the legacy issues at least, bring back the 5 man celebration, fix the goalie clipping issues, add roster/slider share, enhance offline CPU AI and put some effort into franchise mode (they did do a few things this year like contract extensions during the season and league scores popping up during the game).

The problem is... there is zero competition with video game football and hockey.

Can they fix being able to get the puck?

If I check a guy and knock him down, he is more likely to get up and get the puck before I can. It just seems after every hit, deflection, or rebound off my Goalie, the CPU gets the loose puck 80% of the time.

Any tips on what I can do to get those pucks?

Let go of the left stick. If you're on the left stick it basically turns off your ability to pick the puck up.

I will give that a try, but sometimes when I check a guy, the puck slides besides him where I can't reach it, or in front as I go past it somewhat when hitting him.

Grabbing a puck when it's by you should be like catching a basketball pass. It shouldn't be a problem.
