it seems like the last few years the game out of the box was pretty good then as soon as they do the first patch stuff gets messed up in certain areas of the game that were fine to begin with.

I ask because I dont care what anyone says if you play position lock and play your position correctly the CPU controlled teammates do exactly the same thing..They play their position(crappy but they do it)

I position lock in 2 positions.. I swap between LW and RD.

IMO, I have noticed that when you play without being locked into a position there is a very slight lag in changing to the correct controlled player. With position lock that very slight delay does not take place and the CPU controlled players do their job.. Not saying that they wont get beat from time to time, it makes the game play that much better.. I will also suggest that if you go position lock you have to know what zones you are responsible, DO NOT under any circumstance chase the puck or you will get slaughtered!!

Test it out for yourself... it works...
I'll vouch for position lock. I swore this game off (and 17 too) until I tried it for myself (thank you EA Access.) It makes a world of difference in AI play. It has saved the NHL series for me.

Or maybe point me in the right direction to find them online. Thanks.
TNK's sliders are in the sliders section of this forum at the top of the page. I apologize I am just seeing this reply as of today. Good luck, while it is not perfect , after all it is a video game, I get pretty good results with his sliders.

I'm on defaults with the trade deadline roster and it's been tightened up quite a bit with the last patch(s). I'm having quite a bit of fun simming a few/playing a few.

I get it. There are some that somehow have fun with this game. So to those, how do you get pass the loose pucks that consistently gravitate to the cpu & and your teammate cpu that skates pass loose pucks?

You don't, I don't believe any sliders will fix that, very frustrating indeed but still that doesn't kill the game for me. Its a video game, it isn't perfect for me its about perception.

My best advice, something I figured out pretty recently b.c.

You skate near the puck with the left stick, and you resist the temptation to press anything.

Other games have conditioned us that for event 'Y' to happen, the user has to press 'X', but in NHL there is no button to press for a puck pickup, AND pressing anything else will cancel out any puck pickup that was going to happen.

I'm usually the guy spamming R1 to poke check anytime the puck is near me, but I finally realized this was actually hurting my chances of actually getting possession. IMO, they need to change it so that puck pickups aren't cancelled by a poke check or stick lift move, but that's not the case.

My dude, good to see you plugging away still. I'm stuck just before deadline in my Franchise (i think). Need to get back at it and finish the season with the actual Playoffs in full swing. MLB The Show has been it for me since it released.

Just got the game from EA Access.

The new puck chop mechanic, wich I was using A LOT since it has been implemented, is frustrating me. Do you think I'll get used to it ? I have a hard time believing I will.

And I feel pretty much the same about hip-checks.

Hip checks seem pretty ineffective in this year's version. Is puck chopping still in this one? I used in in 17 a lot, but now R1 + RS is defensive skill stick so I figured they took it out.

Found an EA blog that kind of verifies this:

"When you are using the Defensive Skill Stick, you cannot hit or pickup the puck. In order to do so, you need to release the poke check button and you will be able to either deliver a body check or pick up a loose puck that you poked away from a defender."

I think it's like R3 + Right Joytick direction. Take a little getting used to.

Fiddy my man! Yes, I'm still playing!

Just simming some, then playing a game, rinse/repeat. Blues are off to a hot start, got Perron back and playing some youngsters. Having a blast so far.
