Re: So, let me get this straight...

On NHL 19 CPU dumped puck on d-zone around boards and behind own net if pressured. Okay, you could read that and sometimes intercept puck on blue line. But it was at least smart hockey play from them (because it's on boards, not on front of your own net) and sometimes it was even successful passing around a boards, wich broke the pressure and started offence.

On NHL 20 CPU never used boards for passing, NEVER. If pressured they tried forcefully skate out of d-zone even front of their own goal or tried passing through forecheck. There was no smart choices and lots of errors loosing puck at dangerous situations.

Don't remember 100% accurate about NHL 21, I think they didn't use boards, but at least they were better making choices, skating and passing at own d-zone.

NHL 22 wasn't for me, too easy game at Superstar. Don't know how they behave, too few games.

Puck cycling and dumping is a simple AI thing, doesn't need to be that fancy. But it still should be in game! Hopefully NHL 23 would feature that "small detail" or some future version, if they someday completely overhaul AI.

The games were too easy on Superstar ?? What superstar ? Default sliders ?

And to be clear, puck cycling and dumping are very well present in NHL22…

Sometimes I think people complain just to complain, much easier this way 🙄

If you really love hockey, you would setup the game to play how you want… And NHL22 is highly customizable… Try it !

The CPU is using dump and chase? The CPU uses the boards in their own zone to get out of the forecheck? The CPU uses the boards to cycle the puck offensively to create scoring chances and tiring out the defending team? The CPU stands up and defends the own blue line, forcing the attacking team to dump the puck in?Really? Haven't seen that in a way that i could say NHL simulates hockey.

Pretty cool that you answered me Frank, cause right after I saw your post, I recorded the 1st period of a game I played last night... No edited gameplay, just raw footage...

          Here is the setting:

Calgary vs Buffalo (me playing the Sabres LW lock)
So in this gameplay, I will be controlling no.53, no.4, no.19 and no.28...

Take note that I removed all other sounds than the hockey sounds so that you can concentrate on the gameplay 😉

Take also note, that I play with no HUD at all, No pass Assist, no hit assist, hitting power is set at 2 out of a 100, so that when I crushed Zadorov somewhere in that period it felt sooooo rewarding 😀 I never ever ask for a pass either, I just take what the AI gives me, and when you're open, they will try to get the puck to you the majority of the time 😀

Now if you really take the time to watch the video (in 4K btw) tell me again that you still feel the same way ??

I know I had to work my butt off, just to get open and I saw at least 5 dump in's by the AI in just 1 period... Maybe I'm blind, but that's what I saw 😳

          Here is the link:

It's better than expected but there are a lot of hockey fundamentals wrong.

            - defenders turning around and skating in front of their own goal. They should use their own goal as shield and setup play from there.

            - defenders not clearing the puck out of the zone using the glass or the boards.

            - attackers sticking on the puck when they go up the ice near the boards, waiting to get hammered. Instead they should puck the puck deep and go to the forecheck.

            - attackers always want to pass to the middle. Instead they should use open passing lanes to the D-men.

It's not missing thaaat much to be a decent game. But the fundamentals of hockey (clear the zone when you have no open passing lane, protect your own blue line and force the opposition to dump it ( and lose possesion temporarily), value puck posession in the offensive zone) are implemented poorely.

I never said the AI was perfect, far from it, but you painted a darker picture that what I'm seeing… I bolded the part where you say, that the protection of the blue line and dumping and value your puck possession are all there in that gameplay… Am I imagining things or what ? Maybe I’m dreaming 😫 The time and space was really hard to achieve by the Sabres and the Flames…. At least be honest, this is not your kids NHL !!

BTW in today's NHL, there's less dump and chase than there was years ago…

Like I said nitpicking is easy, I could do it all day, but the game does so many things right when you have a good slider set and change strategies accordingly…

And when I watch real hockey, you don't know how many times I see dumb plays, and thinking to myself, what's wrong with their AI ? 😂

Yes, it was too easy. Mostly because poke check was too easy, CPU hardly ever got through to my d-zone. I even tried to handicap me and boost CPU with sliders, but it didn't help. I have to say I am very good at defending, but just okay at offence.

But i am glad you liked and others as well, that NHL-version just wasn't for me. I usually buy every version at least on sale and play 300-600h Franchise Mode (PlayStation stats) since NHL 95.

But i liked NHL 23 technical test and have high hopes for it gameplay wise, even if game doesn't have ton of new stuff.

Also I am glad if NHL 22 had CPU cycling puck through boards, sounds great for NHL 23 also. Well at Tuesday I can see what it offers when EA Access trial opens up.

Re: So, let me get this straight...

Did you play it like I did in my gameplay video ?? In my sliders poke checks force and range are at 0…

Oh ! And I challenge you to play like I do, the explanations are on my slider set front page on Superstar and easily beat the game… If you do, there's nothing I can say, you are just toooo good 😊

For Frank, I just played the first period of a game and was on the edge of my seat just trying to get a goal… At one point, we cycled the puck in their zone for about 1:30… Players were gassed, lol !

And I swear, I saw a DMEN go behind the net to start a breakout… Twice 😳

Re: So, let me get this straight...

On NHL 23 technical test it was great when poke check slowed you down. If I did mistake with poke check, CPU would get a example chances for 2 on 1 rushes and other great opportunities. It makes you play more realistic defense where you can't just always pressure opponent who has puck and position is king. I like it a lot, but i am afraid they nerfed it, because lot of online guys complaint it on internet.

Btw I am not that great player and i don't use any game glitch goals, same tricks always or cheat with skill stick like most online guys do. I prefer playing hockey and usually use All Star-difficulty, with maybe some boosts to CPU. Most NHL versions CPU at Superstar is too humanly quick and over aggressive. Somehow NHL 22 was just too easy, no matter what sliders and even AI learning or CPU difficulty slider wasn't too much.

Well AC3way, you really didn't answer me… Play like I do, exactly and beat the CPU on Superstar easily… This is a challenge, lol !

I came across a video last night of these guys playing competition NHL22 for the best players around the world and they were playing on a sky cam with too much stuff on screen… The puck had a shadow 4 times as big as the puck 😳 WTH ! The puck sticking like glue to hockey stick and perfect passes every time… This is not hockey ! They should call this competition (pinball sky cam hockey thingy)

                      I almost threw up !

And these are the guys the developers listen to…. Unfortunately 😫

Is this confirmed? Everything I have seen states that the EA Play 10 hour trial will start at the same time as the early access period for those that preordered the XFactor edition.

Though I admit they were saying the same thing about Madden this August, but the EA Play trial launched at 10 AM the day before the early access.

Just wondering if this has been confirmed anywhere.
