Re: So, let me get this straight...
when the hockey game starts for you at 7 o clock, we start at 4:30 PM, in British Columbia, do you get it at all? you cannot just say 11 pm, everywhere is a different time zone, you should say time varies between regions.Last edited by SuperGoalies; 10-10-2022, 03:40 PM.Comment

Re: So, let me get this straight...
The games were too easy on Superstar ?? What superstar ? Default sliders ?
And to be clear, puck cycling and dumping are very well present in NHL22…
Sometimes I think people complain just to complain, much easier this way 🙄
If you really love hockey, you would setup the game to play how you want… And NHL22 is highly customizable… Try it !
This game is an absolute chore to tune and play. The AI are simply poor and there's little you can do to mitigate their incompetence.Join the EVHL!

Re: So, let me get this straight...
If you really love hockey, you'd know slider tuning can't fix the AI. The AI plays nothing like real hockey. It's not even close actually. Everyone finds a way to mitigate the nausea for a little while, but the AI can't even do basic breakouts, don't understand back pressure and it's importance, nor do they even want the puck half of the time and believe the middle of the slot isn't a place you should attack nor defend.
This game is an absolute chore to tune and play. The AI are simply poor and there's little you can do to mitigate their incompetence.
Let me say it clearly: NOTHING YOU DO CAN MAKE THE AI BEHAVE CONTRARY TO WHAT EA HAS PROGRAMMED THEM TO DO. It's the nature of programming. Otherwise we'd be slaves to Robot overlords that go "against" what they were coded to do. And maybe one day, we will.
But you can bet your last Pink Frosted Donut, it won't be EA that codes them.Last edited by VeNOM3099; 10-12-2022, 03:29 PM.Comment

Re: So, let me get this straight...
Zero chance I let my excitement for the real hockey season con me into his game.
Like everyone is saying....the virtual players on the ice just don't act or do what their real life counterparts do.
Hockey is a glorious sport, but EA's virtual hockey doesn't come even close to replicating how it is played.
So disappointing!

Don't get me wrong, the on-ice gameplay is slightly better. I do genuinely believe it's a better game. But another marketing debacle, another year with special teams being atrocious, it's just a company we shouldn't be supporting and it's certainly not a $70 upgrade. It is a game that requires heavy TLC/time investment into tuning and playing with strategies to make it into an okay experience for a game or two. It is NOT a game that you'll have trouble putting down. It is NOT going to live up to those "PS2 football era" feelings if you know what I mean. It is another modern clunky EA title that can be okay with effort, but it certainly isn't consistent and it certainly has almost if not all of the AI issues that we've had for the last 8-10 years now.
So at the end of the day, if you are going to purchase this game, know that it comes with a lot of effort to make it feel "ok" for your own personal taste, it is still EA hockey, and once we're past the first month of better goalies and slightly better rush defense, this game will start showing how truly little was done to it. I don't mean to put anyone down who is enjoying the game, I "enjoy" the experience more than 22 in my testing and I certainly envy those of you who are able to just kickback and like the game, but if you're at the point of some of us long-time guys like me/Venom are, this isn't going to be a magical experience. It's an improved EA hockey experience, but not by any means is it a really good hockey experience.Join the EVHL!

Re: So, let me get this straight...
following along with everyones disappointment, thought i'd mention if anyone wants a comprehensive Be A Pro experience, i recommend playing NHL 18.
you get to choose how many years of minor league you play, you pick your training every week, and you only play games. there is no radioshow or endless lunch invitations.
whats funny is that even things like menus and cutscene graphics are all smoother/quicker in NHL 18 than 22.Comment

Re: So, let me get this straight...
Consoles are just closed operating system mini pc's. If anything PC's would be the hardest to code for as there literally a limitless amount of components that could be in one's pc. Maybe that's why NHL does't come out on PC. But find it all every other EA sports game does though.Comment

Re: So, let me get this straight...
You got any sources to back that up? I find it extremely hard to believe the coding is "completely different" between each console and pc. If that's the case...why would game companies spend the time and money to code for each console/pc? Just release it for next gen. It's $10 more per game.

That was EA's official reason for why they stopped doing it on PC anyway, people stopped buying it so it wasn't worth the cost to develop it...well that and piracy of course, another go to excuse.Last edited by Kinvarus; 10-13-2022, 06:42 AM.Comment

Re: So, let me get this straight...
The problem with EA (in particular) is that the game is built on terrible legacy code, which they refuse to fix. All the alterations and additions they make only cause the game to spring leaks in unexpected ways (i.e., all the patching and updates throughout the cycle), yet the same issues persist over a decade in NHL (closer to 20 for Madden SMFH).Comment

Re: So, let me get this straight...
As long as rhere is no dump and chase and no cycling around the boards in the game .... it's just not hockey.
The NHL Series was never able to come as close to simulate the sport as for instance NBA2K or MLB the Show were able to.
In EAs NHL games there are running graphically good looking players with pretty good animations around - but they play nothing what would resemble the real nature of the game.
In real hockey puck posession is difficult - in the game the puck is glued to the stick.
The biggest failure of the game for years is, that the defence isn't defending their own blue line. This is essentiell in real hockey. Taking away time and space. In the game you can just walk in and pepper the goalie.
NHL is an arcade game. Simple as that. There are so many basic elements of the real game missing. No simulation at all - very far away from it.
Exactly. The only people who find enjoyment in this abomination of a game are those who make a living streaming themselves exploiting the non-hockey, physics-ignorant GARBAGE that is this game.Comment
