I haven't played it yet but have a question for those who have:

On powerplays will the CPU actually sit back a little and let you pass the puck around outside the zone to setup a power play attack or do they do what they've always done and act like there is no power play and go after the puck constantly?

This is one thing that has always bugged me about EA's game versus the old 2K game, on a powerplay the game doesn't play as if the CPU is defending the powerplay at all and they constantly just go after the puck instead of sitting back to defend.

I am hopeful that it's better now but I sort of think this is likely the same as always.

They still blindly attack and your AI still skate in circles rather than remaining patient in their positions which would actually allow a passing play to be made. The "toilet flush" powerplay is still very much in the game with the 1-3-1 actually being the most egregious offender so far.

I mean sure, you can hem the PK'ers in, but in terms of actually running a competent, pro-looking PP it still misses the mark by quite a bit.

Few things i noticed:

1. Nice to see they now have 3 PK lines. 2 lines get pretty fatigued when you have a run of penalties

2. They removed team strategies from manage rosters tab. I see they have strategy settings in edit lines now but nothing for team strategies. Only way to change them is on the fly in-game. Maybe they want these to be dictated by the head coach as i see them in his details, just can't edit.

The game play feels more realistic...AI is smarter...I always buy it day 1 I will again this year.

If this is true this is a huge game breaker for one main reason. In years past when you hired a new coach your strategies stayed stuck on the strategies of your default coach you started the mode with. The only way to change this was to go through your new coaches preferences and change them manually.

If this is true then hiring and firing coaches won’t make a difference as we will be stuck with same system throughout the entirety of a franchise. I really hope this is a bug that can be fixed and not a conscious design decision as this completely makes changing your system or making coaching changes pointless

I already posted in another thread, but full presentation is out this year, and probably not coming back. So they sell us on better “presentation” this year, and then remove the option to see it.

Actually, I stumbled across them last night.
We can still change strategies before a game, but it's now in the same screen as edit lines. For team strategies, you select Even Strength and then you will have access to Team Strategies tab. Still sucks you can't edit from team management screen si yiu don't have to every game

Wait I am confused. So you can only change team strategies on a per game basis, instead of universally for franchise? If this is the case this is still majorly broken. That means any games simulated including CPU team games will be stuck with there original team strategies. Which means hiring a coach to run a new system will have zero effect on your team improving, as you will be stuck with the default coaches settings you started the mode with.

I like to simulate a lot of game so I can get through multiple seasons and this is absolutely game breaking

Would have to test this. It may just be defaulted to the coach, so if you hire a new coach the new coach's strategy becomes the default. It's realistic that way, if you hire a defensive coach it makes sense the strategy would be defensive.

I fired my coach and hired a more offensive coach and the default team strategies didn't change. Hope they patch this because that is just stupid. Not seeing any point in coaches if their strategy isn't implemented

This has been a problem every year since they implemented coaching staffs. If you change coaches you have to go see what the new coaches settings are, and change them manually. Locking us out of changing strategies makes this a completely useless feature.

They really bent their customers over this year. I used to sing this dev teams praises, but I just can’t wrap my head around these absolutely ridiculous decisions

This is something I wondered about in the past.

I was never sure if when CPU teams hired new coaches if their new coach's strategy would take effect (for actual games, I'm fairly certain changes were reflected in sim engine)

The changes you would see were simply the “line fits”. Those transferred over with the new coach. But the line formations, and defensive preferences such as pinch, hold the line, and shoot all had to be changed manually to match your new coach.

At least this was a work around in franchise. Now there is no work around in franchise mode. The feature is uselss.

The only reason I could possibly think they would make all of these assanine and pointless decisions is to push people to HUT. I don’t like the to be a ULtimate Team conspiracy theorist, but the decision to remove these things is so far beyond reason I can’t think of a single solitary reason why they would “break” their own modes intentionally

Yesterday I watched two NHL 23 streams shortly on YT and noticed that they removed the slow motion replays of the goals ? Can someone confirm that, or am I wrong and these guys only disabled it ? If yes, have they removed the replays during the period break in the small window too ?

Yes it has been confirmed by EA themselves… It acts like 22 does when you choose the condensed broadcast option instead of full. But the bad part here is NO option to turn it on full…

It means that they only show one replay of your team's goal and shows nothing when the opponent scores 😒

For the small window, are you talking about the action tracker thingy in the pause menu ? If you do, I’m not sure it's there, will have to look into this…
