CPU v CPU
I play sports games a little differently as I am more focused on roster management and coaching than actually playing. So i typically play CPU vs CPU and watch some games while simming others outright and keeping up with lineups and other things. My question is does NHL 23 have the ability to do this CPU vs COU gameplay and control all the teams lineups and roster moves. I know I’m in the very tiny minority but figure i would ask. Thanks.Tags: None -
Re: CPU v C
Yes absolutely it can be done ☑️
I know that in season mode and franchise, you can take control of all the teams and play them for any team or even watch them CPU vs CPU for any team you want…
Also in the controller section, before starting a game, you can "player lock" on any position and you can also choose to be only the coach….Last edited by PernellKarl076; 10-24-2022, 06:05 PM.PernellKarl076 NHL25 Slider Set

Ok so FINALLY I've found someone that plays NHL as I do! If you're familiar with the saga Football Manager in soccer, I mostly try to do the same in NHL, I play Franchise mode and watch 40-50% of the games CPUvsCPU and quick sim the rest. I also set up all the lines, team strategies and line strategies, besides doing all the GM stuff.
I NEVER play a game.
To add even more spice to watching the game I lock the controller on CO (coach position) before entering the game, so I also can change lines, do line matches, situational line changes, change all strategies on the fly.
It's really cool IF YOU HAVE THE SLIDERS SET 'PROPERLY', and for me properly means as realistic but also fun as a game can simulate a sport.
It isn't easy because sliders are probably tailored for human vs CPU gameplay, but by tinkering around ALOT and following a few sources online I've watched some pretty exiting games (with camera view set on True Broadcast) especially in the playoffs (yes, as in real life, gameplay changes alot from regular season to playoffs).
Obviously it all depends on what kind of game flow you prefer to watch.
At the moment, I'm doing some testing myself and waiting for some experts here in the forum to post their tests and results.
p.s. unfortunately you're not gonna find much online about CPUvsCPU gamepley settings, I guess we're a handful of players that play Franchise this way
Have fun!Comment

As per sliders, my sliders are tailored to play (player lock) mostly, so it’s basically CPU vs CPU if you will…. While I do testing for different aspects of the game, I sometimes watch CPU vs CPU or Coach only and the game plays beautiful… I also have 3 specific value for the broadcast camera. Could be an option for you guys…PernellKarl076 NHL25 Slider Set

Re: CPU v CPU
Yes it’s playing great for me. I use broadcast view, did try true broadcast as well. Would like a few more broadcast options. Kind of stinks that you can’t do all team control in franchise but I’m enjoying the game play. Was trying to get somewhat realistic stats and watch a full game in 15 min but 4 minute periods felt too fast so I’m on 5 minute and I can complete a game in under 20 min. Would love the option to turn off presentation and get right to the face off with a button push but have not seen a way to advance past a cut scene. Glad to hear I’m not the only one who enjoys this. I try to keep up with the real life season and copy the transactions and then make my own universe if you will mirroring real life.Ok so FINALLY I've found someone that plays NHL as I do! Re: CPU v CPU
Ditto! I've always played franchise mode this way. I haven't done coach mode as often as I would like, but I like the idea of putting myself in the GM position sitting up in the booth smoking a cigar and taking notes. When I do watch games I get my best ideas on how to improve my team. I've always started with building an expansion team. My latest is the Manitoba Sun Dogs, hoping for a Dynasty in the making! Cheers to all and have fun playing this mode!

Re: CPU v CPU
For sure, I was going to setup your sliders posted in the forum and give them a shot but the 11min. periods length seems a but too long. I usually try to tailor sliders on 6min. periods and in 22 achieved pretty realistic stats and results. Gameplay was a bit sluggish after a bit. I found that the setting the AI Learning slider at max at 3, helps keeping gameflow a bit smoother. I had mine at 5-6 and by mid season gameplay was getting boring, back and forth sides skating into the zone and shooting from the high slot, not many real hockey plays, so setting it a 3 helped a bit.
Testing takes up so much time though 🤦*♂️ I'm still tinkering my own sliders and it's been a bit frustrating so I will surely try yours out.

Re: CPU v CPU
So cool, I thought I was some kind of a weirdo for playing this way and couldn't find others online with my same kink.
ABSOLUTELY! This is the essence of playing Franchise mode this way, you really put you're GM qualities to test and watching the games is the best way to check on your lines.
Sounds like fine, what are you're slider settings?Comment

Re: CPU v CPU
I find that 6min. periods is pretty balanced for how I setup my sliders.
When I lock my controller on CO, I can skip most cut scenes with the A button on Xbox.
Sounds like fun, and alot of work!Comment

Re: CPU v CPU
I don’t get how you guys are looking for more realism and playing periods under 6 minutes ? If you add them up, it's not even a full period of gameplay in real time…
I know it takes longer if not, but you are way more in the games this way.PernellKarl076 NHL25 Slider Set

If you love CPU vs CPU, plug in my slider set as is and I think your problems will be solved 😀 Also there’s a setting for broadcast camera in there if you love watching from that camera. Broadcast or Full Broadcast works well…PernellKarl076 NHL25 Slider Set

Re: CPU v CPU
I've been using your set the only thing I changed was instead of 11 min periods I am doing 8 min periods. But it seems the goalie gets beat a lot especially on wrist shots.
