So glad they added this to the EA play list. Started a franchise with the Sabres and I’m having a blast.

Haven’t played an NHL game in awhile but this is a fantastic effort from EA.

I've not played in years... Is it worth downloading this?

Good that it's free. At least I know I can get screwed by ice tilt for free instead of paying 70 buck in October for that right...LOL

After resisting purchasing all year, gave it an honest shot again. Here’s my impressions:

I’m a big fan of them adding the RS human goalie saves to the computer goalies but even with cross crease reaction at 0, they are way too quick to beat pucks over to the other side of the net which actually is exactly the problem the online 6s game has too. They need to make the goalie’s reaction to using those RS movements much more delayed so that they can still make saves but those should be desperation saves, not moves to beat the puck by a full second.

Hitting and skating can both look and feel really good at times and also really wonky. Hard to articulate my problems with both other than just that they seem unpolished and will probably look and feel better in 24 assuming they’re tweaked and updated again.

Puck physics seem to be in a very good spot compared to 21 and 22. I think it’s bouncey and unpredictable at times like I see in 20. Definitely an improvement here.

The AI are still a letdown. Very similar to 21-22 and imo is behind 20 after going back to that year and making it my main game. The in-zone play is a snooze, still no modern high-cycles seen, CPU teammates still don’t seem to want to take advantage of open slot ice. AI defenders are boring and passive. Very good at shot blocking this year but doing dekes and making them miss is rare as they’re rarely aggressive enough to make them pay. Biggest thing I noticed going back to 20 was the center lane drive by offensive teammates. 21-23 has no center lane drive which really hampers your top of the circle passing lane opportunities that should develop during odd-man rushes when you enter the zone via the middle and dish wide. Can do it all of the time in 20, it’s absolutely absent in 21-23.

It’s another fine effort. It’s nothing egregiously bad (except for the presentation fake advertising) but it’s also not good enough to unseat 20 for me. I play with fully fictional leagues so I’m not tied to real teams and players. Also, graphics are bomb. Definitely was feeling a little fomo there but the gameplay isn’t as dynamic or engaging as 20 so won’t be moving my league to this version.
