I have no idea what it is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was some sort of social networking/community feature similar to what FIFA is introducing.

I'm thinking either Online Communities like Madden where the sim gamers can play other sim gamers and the cheesers can play the cheesers.

Or the more likely scenario IMO is it's just announcing the player traits feature where every player plays like themselves and it helps the AI in managing their team in Be A GM (and during game situations) so they know that Sidney Crosby is a superstar, Colton Orr is just a 4th liner/fighter, John Madden is a defensive-minded center who's mostly a 3rd liner, etc.

Considering EA's focus towards online play, it has to be Online-centric. However, I would love it if it were an offline feature.

Ya, I just want AI that flat out doesn't play the same every single damn game. When I play NHL 11 I can virtually do the same thing every time I enter the zone and skate around the zone. I absolutely can't stand that. The game is zero fun like that. I want a challenge where every team plays differently because of the players on their team. In NHL 11 the NY Islanders play exactly like the Sharks, Red Wings, Bruins, Canucks etc. That shouldn't happen. Truly the only difference between the teams is that a team like the Sharks have Thornton and Marleau who are in the high 80's to low 90's in ratings, while the Islanders best player is probably Okposo at an 85ish. Worst of all, it doesn't even matter when you actually play the game. It is just so aggrevating. I don't think I have ever played another sports game where the ratings of players doesn't even make a difference when you actually play the game.

Vikes, just like you I cannot wait for hockey season to start again. I'm just flippin happy the Twins are finally playing well again so that will help pass the time until hockey season. On another note it might finally be an interesting season of Wild hockey again. We finally have a GM who is willing to sack up and get away from keeping the team the same every damn year. They might actually sell out games again.

I couldn't think of a more subjective arguement than the work you're making here.

I think I read into this quote too much. I think the quote had to do with the sim engine more than the big announcement.

Rammer did hint at new online changes in his last stage demo (summer showcase). Something has gotta give.

If I had to guess at this "thing" I'd say they might be copying a feature from FIFA12.

In FIFA12 you will get to pick a favorite team (in any league) when you startup the game the first time. Every game you play and how well you do adds a score towards your favorite team's ranking in a single global leaderboard. So it kind of ends up like a team fanbase battle to see who has the most dedicated and skilled fans.

They rolled this out on a smaller scale in the last World Cup game and it went over really well, not sure how it will fly in a hockey game if this is what they are referring to. In the end it's just another reason to encourage you to play more when it comes down to it, by giving you more than the outcome of the game to play towards...

I've never played NCAA football, but I heard you can have an online Dynasty where all the members can do most of their management from the Web; scouting, signing, player moves, etc.

That would be terrific if you could do that with NHL12.

Imagine working trades, scheduling practices, hiring scouts, etc from your PC?
