Re: EA Not recognizing equipment realism
They removed the Bauer 4500 helmet from the game (which was still one of the most common helmets in the league) in a year when stars like Stamkos/Toews/Malkin were still proudly wearing it and also removed the most common Reebok helmet at the time. I don't really understand why. Then they only have 2 visors in the game while Madden has a solid handful. It kind of annoys me. Helmets/Visors are the easiest way to recognize NHL players on the ice after their sweater number, I wish people cared to get it right.
Sticks.... i think it's in the manufacturers interest to get those right too. So i agree with you OP, though i feel like this case is an honest mistake.Comment

Meanwhile after removing the widely used Bauer and Reebok helmets, they keep in the old CCM bucket that has no place in the game.

Re: EA Not recognizing equipment realism
Regarding visors:
The game has this visor (forget about brands; it's irrelevant):
The basic, straight visor that's worn by probably the majority of visor wearers in the NHL.
Then they have this other option called "curved" which looks... actually ********. Nobody wears a visor that even resembles it. What the majority of NHL players wearing a "curved" visor do wear looks more like this:
And I find it pretty baffling that they haven't fixed that in however many years now. It is not an issue of memory space or having permission from the brands or anything like that. The "curved" visor available in the game is a joke. Just get rid of it and create a new graphic for the above visor in it's place. ONE simple, simple, simple change that would add a lot of realism to the game. I literally go through the player editor (to adjust ratings) for every player, and whoever I notice wearing a curved visor, I change it to the straight cut because of how bogus the curved visor EA provided looks.
EDIT:
Sick windshield. Nobody wears a visor that really looks like that. Except maybe Dany Heatley.Last edited by Moose24x; 08-06-2013, 01:00 PM.Comment

Re: EA Not recognizing equipment realism
The post you're responding to might be a bit of hyperbole, but if you know the stick in the picture, Karlsson is chopping at the puck with his forehand and the stick is designed backwards. It's a stick that doesn't have the same graphics on both sides of the shaft; the forehand side of the shaft is black with black lettering and black graphics, creating a kind of "ghost" effect for the all of the design on the forehand, thus why it's called an Easton "stealth". The yellow "Easton" wordmark and any other visible design elements are only visible when viewing the stick from the backhand side.
To me, it's nowhere near as big of a deal as not having the 4500 helmet or getting the gloves for so many teams TOTALLY wrong, but I can see why it might bug the most detail oriented players. It does just show laziness from EA. They simply assume that all sticks are symmetrically designed, so instead of making a RH and LH version for sticks that need it, they just flip the blade and handedness without reversing the graphics. Kind of like the laziness in leaving the ridiculous, useless "curved" visor in the game for about 6-7 years, instead of just creating the appropriate graphic for an actual curved visor to replace it. It would just be nice to see some effort on EA's part. Obviously they're never going to get everything right, but some things they just ignore year over year and it seems to be a clear indicator of laziness.Comment

Re: EA Not recognizing equipment realism
Explaining the writing on a stick that you won't see while the game is in action is pretty mundane.
But whatever.Comment

Re: EA Not recognizing equipment realism
First I said the guys post was hyperbole - as in calling it an embarrassing insult to Easton was overboard, and then I said I really don't think it's a big deal and there are much more obvious issues to deal with if you're going to worry about the aesthetics of the game. You just wanted to be that cool guy with the witty one liners on the internet... which is actually like the least cool guy there is. So kudos.Comment

Re: EA Not recognizing equipment realism
Yup, that's me.
I just find it hilarious that with the more noticeable issues, such as arenas being wrong, center ice logo's being wrong, etc., we're talking about the word "Easton" on a stick that moves so much, you're not gonna see it during gameplay.
However, playing in arenas with the center ice logo being all fudged, you WILL notice THAT during gameplay.
But to avoid getting an infraction, I'll leave this thread. Last post.

Re: EA Not recognizing equipment realism
For someone living in Finland (like me) the only real concern is the gameplay. I see only a few games per team during the season, and I couldn't care less about the arenas, center ice logos or equipment.
In fact, I find it a little funny that people keep on crying about some sticks, helmets or visors in the game.Comment

Re: EA Not recognizing equipment realism
It really bothers me that this thread got five pages, and I think it bothers me more that I read it.
Do you really think the MAJORITY of people playing this game really care about stick, helmet, skate, jersey etc design? I do not understand. Why do you think that everyone is zooming in on "x player's" helmet and getting butthurt that a sticker is missing? It's like complaining about the trees in Skyrim because the dirt consistenty would mean that pines can't grow in this region, and therefore oaks should be growing, therefore it a disgrace to oaks, and I love oaks, so I hate this game and it's terrible because it has pines and not oaks, so don't buy it or you will be tricked by the wickedness that is Bethesda and their false sense of pine security! I don't really understand why there is a five page thread that mainly consists of two people writing paragraphs about designs that are wrong.
YES, I understand that you feel like EA is being lazy. YES, I understand some people are attention-detailed. YES, I understand that there are some inexcusable things, like arenas. But you're complaining about how a VISOR looks? Yet you are not complaining about superman goalies, score-whenever-I-want-CPU's, unrealistic goals, stupid goals that would never go in, horrible passing, acceleration problems, roster problems, GM Mode CPU's, the easiness of getting the firstfive picks in GM Mode consistently, good teams doing horrible in GM Mode, along with player progressions and trades in GM Mode...do I need to go on? I didn't know that Alfredsson playing with his proper stick would play better in-game... but thank you for enlightening me. Want a cookie?
So did you like all my cool one-liners?Originally posted by XXstormmXXThe reason I always root for multiple teams is because if one team doesn't make the playoffs or gets eliminated, I loose interest in the sport until next season if my team gets eliminated early. It keeps things interesting if you still have a team you like in the playoffs...Comment
