Re: NHL 15: First Gameplay Video Emerges

Thanks! Ya it'd be interesting to see. In my experience with NHL since there's so few sliders pretty much everyone comes up with a set that basically ends up being exactly like the other. Obviously people have a couple of their own tweaks based on their preferences but the bigger sliders such as CPU Learning, attribute affect, and CPU difficulty adjustment tend to be the same. To me those are the sliders that are touchy and one click can either make the game crazy or playable.

I'm still a huge advocate of EA putting in more AI sliders so we can actually change the brain of the CPU. I truly believe that if EA put in CPU AI sliders for many different areas, instead of generic non descriptive sliders like the ones I mentioned above, everyone could probably play the game they want. Honestly I think it would allow the people who want to play 20 minute periods (like me) that opportunity. The Custom AI was a great step in the right direction but the game still needs more.
    NHL-Minnesota Wild
    NHL-San Jose Sharks
    MLB-Minnesota Twins
    NFL-Minnesota Vikings
    NCAAF-Michigan Wolverines
    NCAAH-St. Cloud State Huskies
    Soccer-Chelsea

If EA tweaks the AI to make them actually run smart plays (not just all stand around on the powerplay, or in the zone, set up, maybe not skate back to the bench after we enter the zone on a 2-on-1 break) and then give us some nice sliders, they won't have to update anything else for me to feel the game was worth it. If they can use that as their base going forward, i'll be happy to wait for 16 for massive overhauls.

On defense the AI can't even play positionally, it's too busy buzzing around trying to play bumper car hockey, sliders do not fix this The AI in that game is flat out broken all around period.

Online may be all you care about, good for you. Offline EA's AI is LEAGUES better than 2k10, even with the lack of neutral zone pressure.
I'm curious, when exactly did you go from talking about the goalies to the players AI?

At any rate the AI is atrocious in EA NHL and I avoid playing against it at all costs. It relies solely on computer reflexes (you can never, ever, ever win a battle for the puck against it that doesn't involve hitting it out of the play) and softening up the opposing goalie to succeed.

Don't know about the NHL 2K players AI, I didn't play many offline games and last game came out years ago. This is however the first post where I'm talking about the players AI. My main complaint has always been solely on EA's goalies.

I don't know how 'hockey credentials' are related to this but I did play actively for 10 years and follow more leagues than just the NHL.

Because NHL tenders are that good these days, mostly due to how huge the equipment has become, and AI wise over all EA's AI puts 2k's to shame hands down, it's not even a debate.

Uh oh, the copyright thought police found the video and took it down. Is there anyone who can re upload it for those of us who haven't seen it?

I would recommend watching the video on mute as you can't hear the game anyway.

In that video (from 1:55-2:00 clips) no NZ defense/pressure. 3 NYR skating vs 1 (or 2 LA, the other 1 probably off the screen) and no pressure. Sure, this might be in a lower difficulty level, but this SHOULD be in the game.

Looks like the gameplay is good, we can't tell much about the graphics from this but the ice deformation looks realistic. The players move more fluidly and there's a hint of a motion blur when the players move sharply. And the goalies look more alive instead of NHL 14 where sometimes good goalies can react way to late and allow easy goals.

I will be thrilled if they tweak the hitting and the AI skating paths before launch. There were 2 or 3 times where that awful animation where they nudge another player and drop to their knees was present, and the AI still skate high speed into each other, even their own teammates.

It was confirmed to be on pro/simulation default sliders.

Has anyone else noticed that the crowd in the leaked footage seems a little too into the game?

It looks like half the crowd is standing and cheering at all times, even when nothing's really going on.

I agree, and I also noticed it in Maden too.

Is the NBC logo gonna be on the screen even if it's canadian teams playing? So if it's something like Toronto vs Montreal, the NBC logo will still be there?
