Re: NHL 2K10 Video Preview (Gamespot)
That was just a very good video in all. This is the first time we've really had an overwhelmingly positive thread for this game... ever!
I really think this game could be something great this year. Despite all the marketing BS ("multiplayer party mode" type stuff), I think this game is going to be very solid at its core. Definitely pumped for the game after this video.
I really like that line change window showing the guy hitting the ice. I think that's a great little presentation thing. But I do have to agree, it's going to get in the way. Heck, the little line change menu has gotten in my way before, now it's going to be a huge box. It'd be great if it was a "smart box" and popped up as far away from where the puck is as possible. But it's great to know it will be optional. Thank you to Shadow for that nugget.Last edited by slickdtc; 08-08-2009, 10:32 AM.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills

Great video...AI looks improved from what was show in the video. While the pop-up screen is a nice touch, hopefully it can be toggled on on/off as it would be distracting for me.
2k10 looks to be coming along nicely...I hope more videos like this are coming!"And by the way, you know, when you're telling these little stories? Here's a good idea - have a POINT. It makes it SO much more interesting for the listener!"Comment

That is where they dropped the ball last year, but in the PS2 game you could turn off everything. So I am hoping for that this year too.Comment

Re: NHL 2K10 Video Preview (Gamespot)
Did anyone else notice something small (but awesome) in the franchise portion of the video?
When the user is scrolling through a number of available players, look at the top where the position is listed. In a few of them you see "RW/LW", "RW/LW", etc.
So does this mean that 2K10 will be the first hockey game to actually have multiple positions for certain players? Awesome!Comment

The new franchise features looked awesome. I couldn't really tell much from the gameplay though. It didn't really look any different from 2k9 to me. D-men still back up way too much, skating still looks awkward and players still catch the puck on their backhand most of the time. Sorry, I don't think I've been this apathetic about hockey games in years. Nonetheless, looking forward to some full-out gameplay vids to really show any ai improvements made.Comment

So you didn't notice that there was no longer 2 or more players always chasing the puck carrier and instead were playing more man to man?Comment

I thought it looked noticably better than 2K9. The players aren't all hunched over and holding their sticks the way one holds a baseball bat or golf club, which is how they skated last year.Last edited by baa7; 08-08-2009, 08:27 PM.Comment

Re: NHL 2K10 Video Preview (Gamespot)
Question I have after watching that: Why spend so much time improving the arenas even more, when the player models, player graphics and even many of the animations are still so far behind EA's game? That seems to me to be the completely wrong focus. I play NHL 09 and all I think is "Wow: beautiful game to look at; beautiful game in motion." I couldn't care less what the arenas look like, seeing 95% of the game is spent looking at the players and the on-ice movement.
I look at the player models and player movement in this new 2K vid, and my thought is this is what the game should have looked like visually 3 years ago on next-gen. IMO it still looks a ways behind EA is in this area of development. Not very inspiring, to think they chose to make arenas, and not players and player movement, look photo-realistic. Odd game development choice IMO.Last edited by baa7; 08-08-2009, 08:56 PM.Comment

Re: NHL 2K10 Video Preview (Gamespot)
Yeah, but who knows, maybe the players and such look better in person than on a video. That said I agree the player models should have come before the Arenas, but oh well. If the gameplay is solid, I'll take it.Comment
