What can you do? No big deal, but 2k has better puck physics, so it is not as noticeable. In EA, if your defenseman has high AWARENESS, he will most likely intercept that puck, if not, he's completely incompetent, and plays like he belongs in Pee-wee.This game looks solid.
I think if you check the EA forums you'll see that pretty much everyone has pointed out that there's still too much tape-to-tape passing.
And on both forums, both sides are hoping that sliders can improve this.

I'm also optimistic that this will be the case for both NHL10 and 2K10.

Overall I liked the video. Graphically it has taken some huge strides this year, and they should be commended on the work they have done. I like the graphic overlays a lot...it looks like an autual TV-style presentation.

The commentary is still lifeless and bland, and the in-game sound effects (hitting the post, boards, etc) need an overhaul. My biggest concern has to do with the CPU AI...the unnecessary backwards passing, skating straight ahead into the defense when there is a clear lane to the outside, etc. The CPU AI still seems to be too pass happy as evidenced by only 5 shots on goal. I expected better AI, especially on "sim" settings.

What I like about the CPU passing is that it utilizes the boards and that there is D to D passing instead of D to F all the time.

And I'm convinced those weren't the best "sim" slider settings on behalf of video length and all. Also it was obvious that the player clicked away from cutscenes.

Looking forward to the 2nd and 3rd period to see some goals.

Your probably one of the few people who has sense on the NHL forums. Why can't people look at the game as an improvement to NHL 2k9. I personally looked at NHL 10 as an improvement to 09 and like it(not a day one buy though).

I mean, WWTC wasn't checked for having the puck in the wrong zone. The computer actually dumped sometimes(hopefully sliders will make more dump ins), the game just looked better. I mean c'mon if you say this is NHL 2k9 V2, NHL 10 is NHL 08 V2, because NHL 09 wasn't hockey, it was NBA Live on Skates(no bashing, kinda was true).

Anyways, when I buy/rent this and if it isn't worth it, I will officially give up on Hockey games because EA gives us Sim but cheeser friendly games and 2k, dunno what they give us anymore(no demo= rent before final judgement). its like I just wanna stick to Hockey on the T.V now, hopefully a full version of each game can change my mind.

Nothing in that video made me say WOW I gotta have this game I may end up with zero hockey games this year... Oh well.

I think those of you who still enjoy Hockey gaming after NHL 08/2k8 must be dreaming. Hockey games are nothing comapred to the days where there were 5 different companies making Hockey games. Now that were down to 2, its almost like Madden. I don't need to explain Madden.

Anyways. The video cannot determine a buy, a rent or a no buy. We need to get the game hands-on/ community or OS review to see how the game is. I don't know alot about this game yet, because 2k didn't market it enough. I am still going on my word. WAITING, until NHL 10 and 2k10 come out and I will read unbiased reviews and play the game before I determine if I wil buy a Hockey game this season.

That's a very safe and intelligent approach.
I wish I had that kind of sense. I just basically buy every game first day and repeat each year despite the empty promises I make to myself.

I'm seriously impressed with that video. Graphically it's off the charts; easily the most realistic-looking hockey game ever, both while in motion and during stoppages. Guess we'll soon find out how it actually plays.

I'm the opposite of you baa.. game play AI does look better, but I still see robotic movements and game play looks very similar to 2k9.

                    Where is the board play?

the arenas are stunning. The commentary? No, it sounded plain and choppy like something from the early 2000s.

Has to be the worst commentary/sound editing in a sports video game on next gen. That, or it ties for worst with Cole and Neal.

Yeah but I'm living the 2K gamer's motto: Lower your expectation meter to 0, then go have yourself some gamin' fun! Seriously, the game in motion looked very good to me. Squint hard and it looks like a real NHL game!

Also and more important, the players appear to have weight and momentum. And seem to be actually skating, and not skittering along the top of the ice like waterbugs (as is the case with another hockey game, the name of which escapes me).

If WWTC wanted to show the game off in a sim setting you'd think he would have actually used some sim sliders or a higher difficulty level.

                              Pros
Some nice cycling and dumps by the AI at various points
                              Good puck physics
                              Crowd sounds noisy
                              Some nice collision animations
                              stick lifts
Over all better positioning/less CPU charging the puck carrier
                              Cons
                              Passing is still arcady fast
Tape to tape passing, seriously its worse than NHL 08-09
Defensive CPU AI same ol back track collapsing to the net. No neutral zone pressure
                              Comentary is still awful
While theres some nice collision animations the actual collision detection is still terrible

The gameplay itself doesn't look all that improved, the AI was very disappointing. Certainly a far cry from WWTC's AI dev blog. Sliders may make it play a better game but theres no way I'm buying without renting first now.

The CPU defenders back tracking to the net is a huge problem. That is my big concern.
I cannot understand why they do not fix this. This has been a problem for a very long time.
