Re: NHL 2K on XENIA and RPCS3 [emulators, xbox360, ps3]

Hi! I know you've posted this last massage in here quite a while ago but I was wondering...

Last year I tried this exact setup. I had some issues with getting 2k10 running well on my RPCS3. My computer is on the low end but should have reasonable FPS anyway. GTX 970, 16gb RAM, i5 6600k, btw.

Game was chill at times but frames dropped often after a few sessions, at which point I just gave up. Main issues were a plethora of visual glitches and of course, the cutscene animations being sped up, which apparently you were able to fix. I remember I used a cap like 60 fps or so, can't be sure, but whichever cap I used it was the only setting that would work for me. Cutscenes were still crap, though.

My point, and one of my questions is: do you happen to have a handful of tips with which I might be able to work with to make the game run better? Who knows, maybe the updates to the emulator itself made things better for everyone.

Finally, do you happen to be using the updated rosters or are you just playing with defaults?

Hope you end up reading this and thanks in advance.

      Hi.
I've started trying out NHL 2K10 on the emulators out there (Xenia and rpcs3). The issue I'm having is during a game, and this happens randomly, my controller won't work when there's a face off. The controller still work to go to the menus, but not for the game. So I have to start a game over again. It does this on both emulators I've tried. My controller is one of those xbox for pc ones, works fine for NHL04. I like the look of this game, so I want to give it a real go. My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. Any ideas out there?

Re: NHL 2K on XENIA and RPCS3 [emulators, xbox360, ps3]

Is it just on faceoffs or during gameplay as well? If it is just faceoffs, there is a known issue on faceoffs with NHL 2k10 that was patched on xbox with a title update. I believe this wasn't patched on the PS side of gaming. As I don't use Xenia, here is a video (admittedly, don't know if this is a the right process) on how to install a title update in Xenia.

You can download the NHL 2k10 xbox title update here.

        Hope this helps

Hi. Thanks for the information. Yes it's just on faceoffs. Quite annoying really, when there's less than a minute in the game and then it does this. I will check out your link.

          Thanks again

The alternative to the patch (particularly for PS3 players) is to keep the game speed at 50 or above. Any lower and it is subject to the faceoff bug, if that is indeed the issue you are encountering.

It's not that the controller won't work, it's more of just a game bug and, yes, someone found a while ago it's related to game speed. I think it was around 43 was the minimum or so.

Is the 2k10 franchise mode limited at 10 years? I'm on rpcs3 and it won't sim past season awards, freezing right after I select it.

Is modding possible for 2K NHL games like NHL 2K10 also NHL 2K8 on RPCS3?

There has never been significant enough success with reverse engineering any NHL2K game. I mean serious projects with anyone getting anywhere beyond tests and limited success demonstrations. So the answer to your question in practical terms is, no. Does that mean it's been tried enough to have a concrete answer? Probably not. But more educated voices than me on this have told me it's a very difficult thing to do and the interest just isn't there like it is with other sports.
That being said, I'm slowly starting to see every other sports game mod dying one by one as well. I think the group of people from a particular generation that wanted to see these games live on is aging to a point where various factors make them feel like they should stop. But also, in VERY VERY large part, the increasing entitlement and disrespectful nagging and demanding of people online in all places not just in the modding world makes it really unappetising to continue projects with so little community there anymore to make it feel like it's worth it.
If you're looking to give it a go, give it a go. But don't do the new trend of starting to promote mods with artwork and promises of game engineering miracles before even getting a working update going. My rule and my advice to people who ask is always the same: If you have yet to make one complete updated roster just with the game as it is, you have no business talking about making a mod. Because it simply doesn't matter how good your goalie helmet or new jerseys or cover artwork look if you don't even have a good updated roster.

Tin said it best but, I’ll reiterate- modding is limited and very difficult for someone to take on and reverse engineer.

As for what can be done, one can make a roster. Editors for rosters, at this point, are limited. 2k8 editor gives you more freedom- with caveats. NHL 2k10 editor requires the program (mixed with in-game editing) a csv editor (can be excel), a usb for transferring files. Even then, you can just change names, positions, player styles- anything else will crash the game and corrupt your roster.

There is an editor for nhl 2k11 on dolphin that can do a bit more but, not too much. Look around the forums, do some research and see what knowledge is known. That’s how the community grows.

Certain versions of Canary seemed to wash out a game when in full screen vs. full window. Is that what you mean? Otherwise, you are asking about troubleshooting re: Canary/Xenia, not K10 or K8, whereby you'd need to ask on their forums.

I've been running NHL 2k10 on Xenia canary build for over a year now. I installed reshade as well so I could play around with the graphics more. Xenia used to be really bugged but its stable now. Canary takes a bit of finding via Github

As tin and rangers has said modding 2k10 is not viable at the moment unless something big changes with emulation that files are unlocked and can be edited. Essentially I looked into 2k10 modding and spent a good year trying to achieve something. I spoke to a software engineer and game developer here in the UK they took a good look too. We can unlock the game files using decryption but the files have no format they don't make any sense, they need someone who knows about reverse engineering. Fingers crossed though! with AI and emulation who knows what might happen.
