Faceoff was tore a new one

Here is Gamespots review of Faceoff 2003. I was looking forward to this game a little bit but if it's as bad as this guy says then I will have to give it a rent instead.

Normally I don't put much stock in GameSpot, but the game does sound rather horrendous.

      breaking down the \'review\'

not putting any stock into this 'review' cus 1) none of us regular people can get it yet, 2)this guy did the NHL 2003 review for gamespot, and 3) look for the bold print in this quote to see where he starts shooting himself in the foot:
In reply to:

NHL FaceOff 2003 offers a good variety of game modes. You can take all the NHL teams, the all-star teams, and a handful of world teams in standard exhibition, playoff, and season modes. There are also shoot-out and practice modes. The latter is quite nice in theory because you can set the number of skaters on the ice and test power-play and penalty-killing strategies. In reality, you probably won't use this mode because you shouldn't be playing this game.

Are you my mother?!? Are you my grandma?!? Are you God?!? this guy makes me laugh, 'you shouldn't be playing this game'...that's your mom's job to tell you you shouldn't be playing a game. not some ******* reviewer.
      bang bang bang
In reply to:

The graphics weren't improved in the 2003 edition. The game doesn't look bad, but it doesn't look great either. Player faces don't look too much like their real-life counterparts, and it only gets worse when you see them move. The animations are just terrible compared to those in EA's hockey title. This is only more evident with the in-engine cinematics, where you'll get to see clipping and jarred movement up close.

obviously this guy didn't play faceoff 01. and f0ck cinematics, last time i checked they didn't have an effect on the final score.
In reply to:

Overall, NHL FaceOff 2003 is a substandard hockey game. Once again it didn't seem convenient for the developers to address problems that have carried over every year. Everything this game tries to do is done better in other hockey games like EA's NHL series. While NHL 2003 didn't have too many innovations this year, it is still light years ahead of FaceOff in every category. So do yourself a favor and avoid this game.

funny, i would have said the exact same thing, only about the 'realistic' NHL 2003 tell u what, the only problem i saw in FO 01 was the lack of dekes and poke checks. Mr. Beers, do us a favor and go to the hospital, shooting your foot multiple times must be extremely painful.

my verdict: i see Gamespot's now hiring comedians to write their reviews. hence this statement from Mr. Beers in Gs' NHL 2003 review:
In reply to:

There are only a few improvements to help distinguish it from NHL 2002, but these changes further increase the realism of what is considered the best hockey simulation on the market. - Craig Beers

i have heard that similar statements will have become a joke come 11/12/02. IMO it already is... i shall now get off the stage

        Re: breaking down the \'review\'

        a 4.6 is a 4.6

You just don't throw 4's around when reviewing games.

The must rediculous review ever was the Triple Play 2002 review an 8.6 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That made me try to email the idiot and rip him a new one. TP 2002 was a 6.0 game at best. You just don't misjudge a game by 2.5 or more.

The game sucks, face it. NHL 2003 as much as I dislike it wipes the floor with this game.

            .

The Faceoff series has sucked ever since it's start.(Faceoff 98 was sorta enjoyable) I'll pass this up and buy NHL 2K3 instead.
