Re: NHL 2K3 Impression - POST ALL OF THEM HERE PLEASE
All I Have to say to sega is.....................
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I just picked it up this morning. The game is everything EA sports doesn't do with NHL2003. I am so happy. Finally a hockey game for REAL hockey fans. Simulation all the way powered by ESPN's presentation. Great Job by Sega!!!! -
Re: NHL 2K3 Impression - POST ALL OF THEM HERE PLEASE
omg.I am trading in nhl2003 my next trip to eb.2k3 is that good.Played some during my (extneded)lol lunch break. The AI is amazing,it will tear you apart if u play it like ea's game. The cpu scoring is much imporoved from last year.Played a couple games at allstar level buffalo phlly.Me buffalo.Lost 4-1 and lost 3-2.The game plays great.I only pinned on the board twice so far,but it was way too cool to watch. The goalie animations are amazing.Tons and i mean tons of sliders.I was just using the basic controls for most of the time. The announcing is ok.but i dont care I play for the gameplay.I dont think I will ever buy ea's game unless they do a completer overhaul. It will be a shame if Sega doesnt destroy Ea in the hockey category. This game is light years ahead of ea and it is only really in its third year of development as compared to ea's.go get it now!!!!!!!!Comment

Does the fighting occur at reasonable times, or does it always seem to happen when you're on a 2-on-1 or a breakway like *cough* another hockey game.“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in twelve years, we'll be voting for plants.” - Lewis BlackComment

Re: NHL 2K3 Impression - POST ALL OF THEM HERE PLEASE
I love how the puck ricochets out of the net AFTER it is slammed home.
I love how the replay shows how the goalie got beat...puck under arm, pads, ricochet off post than off back of goalie into the net....etc
I love how you know when you commit a penalty....
I love the pinning against the boards
I'll find more after I play again.
Great game of hockey.....Sega's come a long way from Mario Lemiux Hockeygrom Sega Genesis days..(I wish I still had commerative puck)teaching.............still fun
video games........I wish my boys would let me play
watching Tottenham vs. Liverpool at White Hart Lane............2004 was a long time agoComment

Re: NHL 2K3 Impression - POST ALL OF THEM HERE PLEASE
This game is awesome, I have had two goals that were deflected in , in front of the net by a forward after a wrist shot by a defensivemen. Gives you incentive to shoot from the outside when realistic things like this happen. I am sure I will have to mess with the sliders and the level of play to get the right amount of shots, but I am not scoring enough to move up just yet.
The battles for the puck a long the board are very cool and the ability to pass the puck in the offensive zone is one of the things that makes it so different.Comment

Re: NHL 2K3 Impression - POST ALL OF THEM HERE PLEASE
I could have sworn that sega stated in an interview that there wouldn't be gameplay sliders for this game because they were afraid it would make the timing off on everything else. I guess maybe I read the incorrectly a couple of months ago. Can't wait to get this game another few days for the Xbox version.Comment

Re: NHL 2K3 Impression - POST ALL OF THEM HERE PLEASE
I am loving this game so far!
Bad stuff first:
1. I am dissapointed with the sound. The commentary stinks, several times the play-by-play guy will say something like "What do you think of Jeremy Roenik this year?" and nothing will be said by the color guy! Also I have the sound set to stereo (I have my TV hooked up to a stereo system) and it sounds muffled, I don't have this problem with any other sega sports games.
2. Graphics at first didn't wow me, they are inferior to NHL2003. They however are still pretty good, and there are reflections on the ice, IGN review said there wasn't any?
Okay, now that is out of the way, on to the stuff I like:
1. Goalies flop, block, even spread there pads out when you bring the puck by them in the defensive zone. They seem very "alive", more than any hockey game I have ever played. In my second game I made a great one timer that Osgood saved to the left, but it brought him out of position for the rebound and I got a goal with Gomez, looked just like the real thing.
2. CPU defense. I have been playing on the pro level and the CPU AI for defense reacts well to the puck. I can bring the puck in on the side, but never down the middle. In fact, I have had one breakaway goal in three games, and last game with Colorado I didn't even get a break away! The CPU in the neutral zone tries to poke the puck away from you, very cool. It helps make the game pace seem more realistic when neither you nor the CPU is on a breakaway every other possesion.
3. Board pinning is awesome. I have been pinned several times, about 10 a game, and it is fun trying to fight your way out of it. I even back elbowed some guy with Scott Stevens and he plopped to the ice! I also was able to intentionally pin it, very cool.
Still learning about the game, ready for more tonight after work. I need to play defense better, I chase the puck too much. This game is great so far, I don't think those of you who were planning on getting it will be dissapointed. Those of you unsure should at least rent it, I think you will like it. After getting into a game it feels more like hockey than EA's series ever has, and I have yet to touch the sliders.Comment

Re: NHL 2K3 Impression - POST ALL OF THEM HERE PLEASE
I like this game FAR FAR better than NHL 2003. I bought the PS2 version with the intent of excganging it for the xbox version in a week....(I couldn't wait....)
Let's see.....
Gameplay: 100x better than NHL 2003 IMHO....gameplay is much slower which allows for plays to develop...I'm playing on pro level with the speed bumped up slightly (still way slower than EA's game)...pinning is cool....hard hits are not overdone...goalie stuff is cool as previously mentioned. I won my fist game (drafted a team) 1-0 ...lost the second 3-0 and then had a 1-1 tie. Drafting was cool....easy to sort on attributes you want to.
An interesting thing was once you have finished drafting (about 50 rounds) you have to sign all the players...no preset contracts...there are about 7 weeks to go though for signing your drafted players. I ended up with an extra 1000 budget points after signing everyone...(1000 left from anout 6000 I think). One thing that bummed me out a bit...I didn't see a way to set the number of games in a season for my Franchise.....that's bad....I'll end of having to sim lots of the games. Line management is done very very well. All in all I really like it.
Graphics: Not so great...EA's is better.
Sound: Commentary is horrible....but thank God there isn't those idiotic EA traks playing. They try to turn every sporting event into some dumb a$$ed MTV video.
Presentation: A mixed bag....not anywhere near as good as NBA 2k3 but better than EA;s extremely irritating mix of music and highlights instead of a pregame......
