Has Anyone scored on a long shot??
I have scored with long shots that ended up being tipped in, but I can't think of any times where i just blasted one or even slipped a quick wrist shot past the goalie from more than 15 feet or so. I am trying to move the puck around the zone as much as I can, maybe this will eventually pay off.Tags: None -
Re: Has Anyone scored on a long shot??
Playing on All-Star I have only done this ONE time, and I agree it's a bit of a problem. The only time I did it was just after crossing the blueline, I blasted a slap shot just under the goalies right arm. At least is was an OT winner!
I have the goalie slider set at 0... but they are still too damn good in my opinion. I have the least amount of goals scored in the league, and I have given up the least amount of goals too. I have recently bumped up the Offense slider... which seemed to get the CPU shooting more, but goals have not really gone up for me. Possibly increasing the shot accuracy slider could help with some long shots going in? Anyway... i'm still loving this game, but I do wish there was some more scoring!LET'S GO FLYERS, YANKEES, DOLPHINS!!! -
Re: Has Anyone scored on a long shot??
I bumped up the scoring accuracy and quickly got down 4-0 against Buffalo on AllStar in the 2nd period. I was able to make it 4-1 with a shot from Kovalev just inside the blue line. I also had Offense maxed and Goalie just a couple of clicks to the left. I think that if you hit the right sliders, scoring will no longer be a problem. Kind've wish Sega would post some recommended sliders for different tastes, like it updated its manual on line for NFL2k3. In any event, great game.Comment

Re: Has Anyone scored on a long shot??
I scored last night with Rob Blake on a wrister just inside the blue line on the left side. It went right between Salo's arm and leg. Pretty stuff.
According to Michael, the NHL 2K3 programmer who posts a lot on Thunderpuck, the goalie slider is like the NFL2K3 sliders, in that if you move it to the left of center, your goalie gets better and the CPU's gets worse, and to the right of center your goalie gets worse and theirs gets better.
What I did, based on a lot of posts on Thunderpuck, was to put the goalie skill slider in the middle, and move shot blocking also down to the middle, 5 clicks. I still only get 30-35 shots on goal in a game, and my 2 games since switching to these settings have been a 3-3 tie and a 3-2 loss. And that's with Roy, who is unbelievable in this game.Comment

Re: Has Anyone scored on a long shot??
I've scored quite a bit on slapshots just after I cross the blue line. I've also found something that works fairly well on faceoffs in my opponent's defensive zone. If I can, I try to win the draw and pass it back to my defenseman closest to the boards (depending on which side of the ice the faceoff is on). Then, I quickly pass it across to the other defenseman for a one-timer. I have scored a few times this way...very cool.
One other thing is that I have noticed that slapshots are much harder to score with on Hall-of-Famer. Playing on Pro or All-Star should allow for a decent amount of them to go in.Comment

Re: Has Anyone scored on a long shot??
I was just reading a thread in the Thunderpuck forums and a guy said Puck Rentention is for the goalie. The higer it is the easier for him to make saves. Eg. With it high the puck has to go near his glove to be cuaght but at 0 has to go right in or it will bounce off. I haven;t tried it but it makes sense.Comment

Re: Has Anyone scored on a long shot??
deception,
I don't know. I have it on low and that doesn't seem to affect it. I've turned down puck rentention and control and it makes it easier to puck check the puck away from the CPU. With it on high, They just skate with it and the poke check is futile.
Maybe this guy was from Sega Sports but if it was another gamer then I don't think that's what it effects.Comment

Re: Has Anyone scored on a long shot??
THe key is, you cant cross the blue line, and wind up with this big shot skating straight in. The goalie will have time to move over and set up-simple physics, a solid puck just isnt going to pass through a goalie. The key is that if you want to take long shots, try a quick slapper as you are skating across the high slot area, or even a quick one from the wing. Very much realistically, you can suprise the goalie short side high or wide low. and if they do block it, and they are caught off balance by the original shot, you can pick up a tidy rebound.Comment

Re: Has Anyone scored on a long shot??
Piper,
That is the style I play and still haven't had much luck, I have had a couple since I made this post, that might be cause I dropped the Goalie AI to the left, I need to look into changing the shot blocking slider to to see if that helps.Comment
