    "Skill" Sliders vs Regular (2k3)

Ok, so I spot in a post somewhere that the goalie "skill" slider is supposed to be a balance type deal. All the way left means your goalie is god, while the other sucks and vice versa. I had mine at 0, and was wondering how Salo was stopping 69 shots in one game because.......

my offense and defense skill were all the way to the right! If ALL the skill sliders are balance type deals, then that means I was given the CPU and HUGE advantage on both D and O. Which explains my curse words as I couldnt do ANYTHING with the puck as the D was all over me, and their O was schooling me like a little gurl......

So, I set my goalie slider in the middle, and the d and o one click from the middle to the left (so I can score of course!) and just played the AVs. They only got 35 shots on me, and we shut them out! Sooooo, long storey short, I guess this theory is true then?

This might be in another thread somewhere, but I haven't seen it so sorry if it is! Anyone else thinking along these same lines??????

That is WAY too many shots in a hockey game. Yikes.

I don't agree that 35 shots is "way too many" for a hockey game. Just last night these four teams, NY, TB, Ott and Minn had shot totals of 38, 37, 37 and 35 respectively.

As far as the sliders being even in the middle, harder for human to the right, easier for human to the left, I think you're right. I mentioned that in a couple of other posts, citing a post by Michael, the NHL2K3 programmer who posts often on Thunderpuck, and that's what he said.

When I put the goalie slider back to the middle (I had it all the way down) and offense and defense back to the middle (I had them both maxed to the right) I started getting great games (3-2 and 3-3 were my last couple) with my goalie becoming human again and much more balanced play on offense and defense, as opposed to being manhandled all the time.

Card, I think he was referring to my game where I had 69 shots against.

I have the goalie slider about 2 clicks from zero right now as I can't seem to buy a goal. but the other skill sliders I have one click in favour of me, and all seems well. I just wish that you could change them without costing the other team, i.e. make both me and the AI good on offense.......

You're right, I missed that. Sorry. 69 is quite a lot. But just like you, when I was playing with offense and defense cranked, the CPU was like a bunch of madmen...swarming me on defense, and then buzzing around like a swarm of bees on offense, and I got outshot 2 or 3 to 1 usually. Of course, with the goalie slider at 0, my goalie was a man possessed and I was still winning most games 1-0. I'm glad it seems like we have this slider thing figured out, because I'm having so much more fun playing 3-2 type games where the CPU is human...pun intended.

Put the defensive slider all way right (MAX) and the offensive slider at the default setting. I am scoring about 2 to 3 goals per game, but good puck movement is the key. I also have shot blocking slider all the way right too. The speed burst settings are all at two and the game speed is set three from the left.
