    Red Wings slumping

I've lived in the Detroit area all my life, so I'm a diehard Wings fan (and don't say I jumped on the bandwagon, we suffered through some crappy years in the past). Anyways, I'm not worried about the slump, because it tends to happen every season with teams. You can't have your A game all regular season, it's just too long. Stevie Y should be back for the Playoffs, good chance for a cup, as long as they look good going into the playoffs.

They are slumping bad. They are just not the same team as last year. Cujo has been a major bust and I do not see a repeat in thier future.

I got tickets to the game on St. Patty's Day, hopefully Stevie will be back by then

Cujo's just doing basically what Hasek did last year...Hasek wasn't that great in the regular season, I honestly think it takes some adjustment to get used to playing with a team like the Wings, where the goalie needs to step up in fewer situations, as opposed to where he has to stand on his head to win every game.

I dunno if I can exactly agree with that sentiment of Cujo needing to adjust to NOT standing on his head every night. I mean this is the NHL of the 21st century not the '70s when the Habs only allowed something like 15 shots on goal for Dryden to stop every night.

I think Cujo's problem is twofold. He wants to finally win a Stanley Cup which would prove his detractors wrong about him not handling the pressure. He's also got the added pressure of showing up the Leafs. He badly wants to win that cup THIS YEAR so he can show the Leafs that he left them for good reason. I honestly think Cujo's not going to be in Motown very long as Manny Legace is playing so well that he could be a no. 1 goaltender.

                    Re: Red Wings slumping

IMO, Cujo's play has nothing to do with showing up the Leafs. It is totally the way he has played the past few seasons. He wasn't that great in Toronto last year before he got injured, and then he turned in on in the playoffs.

Detroit is in a funk right now for a number of reasons:

                    1. Stanley Cup hangover. Plain and simple it's hard for teams to get refocused after winning a Cup.

                    2. Injuries. Chelios, Fischer, Yzerman, McCartry... the list goes on. Playing in the Western Conference and fighting through injuries is a tough task. Everyone talks about how hot Colorado is right now, but the Red Wings lost games of 1-0 and 5-3 (empty net goal) and could have easilt won either game getting a few breaks.

                    3. Western Conference. There is so much talent in the West, if a team isn't on the top of their game, they will lose games.

The Wings will be fine... I expect them to make a surge in the last couple months of the season and reclaim the Central division title. When the playoffs start and everyone's healthy (hopefully) anything can happen.

i dont think detroit will win this cup this year even if yzerman comes back playing well.

dallas should take care of them. i think that it will be either dallas or st. louis from the west this year. if dallas and stl meet in the west finals then i think stl will win it.. but if stl runs into either det or col before dallas takes care of them then dallas will take it. vancouver wont get past the first round.

My thoughts exactly... Especially the injuries and the Western Conference being so competitive... But i would also attribute some of that to Bowmen... he knew his players probably better than they knew themselves... He knew how hard he could push...

Cujo is starting to slip... 'cause he's a reflex goalie, as opposed to a positional goalie (Roy). Reflex goalies show their age quicker.... He'll be on track by April though... i have no doubt about it...
