How does the NHL expect to survive?...

I'm looking through the schedule on ESPN and I notice that alot of thease games are not going to be shown on tv?

I am from NJ and I am not even getting the Devils game tonight nor am I getting a Rangers one which are always on MSG. Not only that but I'm positive my cable company is not going to even bother getting the Center Ice package.

They complain about ratings, well you need to make a deal with ESPN and get thease games more exposure or else the NHL will continue to suffer and fail.

Usually there is a pre game show for the Devils, home and away and they are not even showing that. I guess no one gives a damn about hockey huh? I hope Bettman is happy ruining this league.

I don't think I'd buy Center Ice, but I can't right now if I wanted (my cable company doesn't have it right now either). I'll see a few Wings games on Vs. but nowhere near what I'd see if ESPN was showing tons of games. I'll be watching some Coyotes games, but the NHL absolutely has to get back on ESPN, no matter what ish Bettman spouts about Vs. devoting themselves to hockey being better than ESPN.

The Devils game probably isn't on TV because it's only a pre-season game. I live in probably one of the Top 5 hockey markets in NA, and the majority of the Canuck pre-season games aren't on TV.

The regular season started for the Ducks/Kings but every other team is still playing pre-season games.

Just like I reported awhile back, you will most likely see the NHL back on ESPN/ESPN 2 as early as next season.

AF I guess the Toronto market is better because most of the Leafs preseason games have been on Leafs TV.

Anyways here's how the NHL survives

        1. Gate recepts

Yeah, it sucks. I don't get VS., so I can't see the games on there, and Comcast only shows something like 40 Flyers games. It's hard to keep up with them when you barely see them play on TV.

            Not necessarily in that order.

And even I can't bring myself to watch an NHL (or any league) preseason game. Yuck.

The season hasn't started yet for the majority of teams. The Ducks and Kings opened this weekend in London, but the other teams get started this week on Wednesday or Thursday. Preseason games are hardly ever on TV.

I also do not get VS. and the Blackhawks do not show any of their home games on TV so that means I get to watch half a season of hockey. I liked when hockey was on ESPN because it allowed fans to watch teams they might normally get a chance to. ESPN is also on every sports or satellite basic package as opposed to VS.

Comcast + NHL Center Ice is a fantastic combination. I consider Center Ice to be the most worthwhile of the sports PPV packages (mostly due to the lack of hockey coverage in America), and for a fan of the sport, it's a true gem.

Coverage should pick up as the regular season starts, and to those that don't have access to NHL Center Ice, there will be an online option this year, which can be explored at NHL.com's website.
