    Frozen Puck? NHL2k3

I've been getting some very odd frozen pucks once or twice a game recently. Its only happened when I have possesion, and the whistle sounds.. but no penalty?? Any of you getting this oddity on occasion?

This is a huge bug. The puck is being frozen because you took too long getting out of your offensive zone on a delayed offsides. For some reason the puck gets frozen and the faceoff stays in the zone instead of the nuetral zone. I am amazed that this major bug got to to production copies. Apperntly the developers forgot about the rules in the NHL. Almost as bad as the goalie leaving the crease and iceing isn't called off. All in all its still the best hockey sim to date.

It's not a bug. That's the rule. One of the programmers on the game was talking about it in this forum when it first came out. The puck is supposed to be frozen in that situation according to NHL rules.

The official National Hockey League website including news, rosters, stats, schedules, teams, and video.

here is an excerpt from the official rule:

            (v) If a delayed off-side has been signaled, the non-offending player must carry or pass the puck towards and into the neutral zone. If he does not, the whistle shall be blown and the face-off take place in the neutral zone at a spot nearest the defending Team's blue line.

So, either that programmer was wrong or the official rulebook posted on nhl.com is wrong.

The ruling is correct, the placement of the faceoff is wrong. There are numerous errors in faceoff placement in the game however:

If a puck is passed into the zone offside, the faceoff is where the puck was passed from, not the faceoff dot.

If the goalie stops a shot from the left side and then freezes the puck on the right side of the net, the faceoff is on the side where the shot came from, not where the puck was frozen.

There are no faceoffs in the slot (this one really annoys me)

Oh, and the rule for waving off icing if the goalie comes out to play the puck is a new rule change, so it doesn't surprise me that it was missed. Wait til next year.
