WTF? Are they going to market the Maple Leafs as "Champions of Toronto" next? This is the most idiotic thing I've heard of.

Oh my God. First Ottawa, then New York, and now Vancouver, a team we didn't even face?? Give it a rest guys (not to you OS guys, just the reporters writing this junk), we know that the officiating was bad for both sides, not just for Detroit or Pittsburgh. It seems that every single article written about this subject singles out Pittsburgh. How about they single out the refereeing that was horrible in the earlier games of the series, the calls that never went Pittsburgh's way?

The "state champions" label is nothing new for the NHL. The Sabres actually sold "New York State Champion" merchandise after the playoffs ended (because the Sabres defeated both the Islanders and Rangers in last year's playoffs). It was pretty crappy if you ask me, but it sure was therapeutic for me to see the words "Buffalo" and "Champions" on a t-shirt!

IMO this is geared for Pittsburgh fans who wants to rub it into Flyers fans and not so much as "we are the finalists of the Cup Finals but 'State Champs' are the better way of saying it". Who cares about the state champ hats outside of Pennsylvania?

Ya i agree with the "who cares" outside of PA. It's a rivalry tho..its like in college having bragging rights till the next season. Pens/Flyers currently might be the biggest rivalry in the NHL. Anyways, i bet those things will sell more than Eastern Conference Champs gear.
