Salary Cap going up for the 4th straight year

    This is crazy!

How in the blue hell can a league that's basically being propped up by its 6 Canadian teams continue to raise the salary cap? Seriously this is sheer madness. The cap is going up to a 56.7 mil max. The league is already in the same financial condition it was before the lockout. I guess we lost the season in vain.

Thank you very much Little Napoleon! (Bettman)

Agreed, from a business standpoint this is ridiculous. Parity will be gone soon enough I'm sure. The league should have locked the salary cap number in for 3-4 year.

I understand why it was raised since it's supposed to be a fixed % of total revenues. The owners wanted that in case the revenues weren't there a few years down the road.

The irony is that the minimum is getting pretty damn high for the small teams, who were supposed to be protected by the salary cap. The end result seems to be that the big teams' owners have all this extra revenue they can't spend on players so they basically fill their pockets while the smaller teams are struggling to get enough revenue to reach the salary minimum. This could get ugly pretty fast.

Yeah...it's crazy that we lost a season for this. Way to go yet again Bettman.

I'd be willing to bet that the $40+M floor is more than about half of the teams were spending in the season prior to the lockout. It's only a matter of time before the labor strife monster rears its ugly head again...
