    If you were on the ice and they scored a goal against your team everybody on the ices gets a -. If a goal is scored for your team the guys on the ice gets a +.

      what if you as a team play ****ty defense but your indiviual talent would be good in a better defensive scheme... woudlnt that poorly reflect on you as a player???

        It's not a particularly meaningful stat (except in fantasy hockey leagues, of course).

          Well I will say onething usually the players that have a high + rating are the better players in the league. Maybe once inwhile you might have some guy with a lot of points, but also have a lot of - too. Daniel B from Philly comes to mind. I think he had a lot of points and he had a lot - too.

            basically i bought this Hockey game and I'm trying to figure out why some guys are better then others and i thought +/- was the deciding factor... i guess not.

              +/- is also only applicable to regular strength play. Pluses and minuses aren't given out to teams on the power play or penalty kill

                if a team scores shorthanded though then they get a + and the other team gets a -.

                It is a pretty useless stat, youll usually just find that the players on good teams tend to be + and players on bad teams tend to be -. It doesnt tell you much of importance.
