Word is that it was Jagr and Jagr completely freaked out. Not that I blame him.Comment

Re: Alexei Cherepanov has died
Unbelievable. 19 is so young, and the kid was a blue chip prospect with the world in front of him. I remember being pissed when the Oilers skipped him in the draft and took Alex Plante, a big slow defenceman who will never pan out instead of Cherry, who was listed as the most skilled (but one of the rawest prospects) in that years draft. Terrible.Comment

Re: Alexei Cherepanov has died
Damn. That is horrible.
This part was interesting in the TSN report.
Sources in Russia tell TSN that the ambulance that is normally at all games had already departed and had to be called back.
It is not clear exactly how long it took for Cherepanov to be transported from the rink to the hospital but one source in the arena told TSN it was, "probably 15 or 20 minutes."
There are also questions as to whether defibrillators at the arena were in good working order, though no further details are available.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Alexei Cherepanov has died
Died on the bench of a heart attack... the coach said he didn't see anything on the ice that would make him think it was a hit... I'm assuming the guy had a previously undiscovered heart condition? RIP either way. Way too young.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Re: Alexei Cherepanov has died
The video. You can see Jagr just standing there feeling helpless. Unbeleivable video of the players and trainers taking his body away.

Re: Alexei Cherepanov has died
http://slapshot.blogs.nytimes.com/20...s-during-game/The Russian Web site Allhockey*** reported the cause of death as cardiac arrest.
According to the Russian daily Sport-Express, Cherepanov’s collapse was not preceded by a collision with another player or blows to the head or chest. The newspaper reported that doctors were able to resuscitate Cherepanov for only about two minutes during their efforts.
The newspaper reported that Jaromir Jagr, the former Ranger who joined Avangard this season and was seen as a mentor to Cherepanov, was distraught and in tears after the game.
Looks like there was no hit from Jagr.Last edited by Sandman42; 10-13-2008, 07:16 PM.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Alexei Cherepanov has died
just saw this on espn.com a few minutes ago...really sad.
there will be a LOT of scrutiny toward the team regarding medical care, and i'd expect a lawsuit by his family down the road. it may give players pause when thinking about playing in those conditions.
i read a great article a few weeks ago (it was very in-depth) on the columbus dispatch regarding the training that the medical staff goes through with the blue jackets...i didn't know a lot of those things and i was really amazed at how professional and prompt they work at things.STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: Alexei Cherepanov has died
I would imagine there's only so much medical personnel can do in such short amount of time they have to work with. There's only so many minutes the brain/heart can be disfunctional...just saw this on espn.com a few minutes ago...really sad.

I bet it's very disheartening for the NYR team and especially management losing such a promising player...Many thoughts and prayers with the familyOriginally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: Alexei Cherepanov has died
This sucks, wow...that video is just chilling.
I remember when it happened to Jiri Fischer on the Wings, and they were luckily able to get his heart started again. Sadly it seems here that there wasn't the time or resources
