Re: Broke Yotes!!
I hope the game is televised and the chant is loud enough that everyone can hear. You know damn well that the Canadian sports nets will pick it up and air a clip of the chant!Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Broke Yotes!!
I've got multiple videos from last night, but this one is probably the only suitable one for this board. I don't even care that it was a pre-season game, this was the most pathetic excuse for a crowd that I've ever seen. When we pulled into the season-ticket holders parking lot, we were told "If you don't have a pass, that's okay, we're not expecting many people tonight." It was all pretty much down hill from there.Comment

So what. We beat San Jose 2-0. No ownership decision = no advertising, no sponsors, no tv contract. I am glad you are so happy to see failure.Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/GMBBrian

If so, then I don't care if there is no ownership decision, I'd still watch a free hockey game no matter who was playing.
The fact is, hockey has failed in the desert. It's why there's absolutely nobody interested in buying this team and sticking to that 30 year lease.
Moyes lost $20M+ every season for a reason. The fans and corporation couldn't care less about a hockey team in Phoenix.Comment

Must be nice to sport that Wings logo. Hockey has not failed in the desert. Ownership has. And the game was not free. Not sure where you go that from.Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/GMBBrian

Re: Broke Yotes!!
Excuse me if I'm incorrect about this, but wasn't that game free of charge?

Plus the decision to put the arena in Glendale hurt them a lot. It works for football, people will drive no matter what, but a hour drive from a lot of places in the valley to watch a AHL team isn't really appealing.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Broke Yotes!!
I'd say that the fans and corporations couldn't care less about a crappy losing hockey team in Phoenix that hasn't given them any reason to care lately. It's not like they are the Leafs, who have won in the past before sucking horribly. When your team blows and never looks to improve I don't really blame the fans for not going...Who wanted to go see the Lions lose in the NFL last year? How is watching a team get its butt kicked every night fun?

2. I will agree with you about the arena but remember the first half of last season? The Coyotes were actually in playoff contention and playing a good brand of hockey. I don't exactly remember people being fired up, then again the team did falter down the stretch but at least they showed hope which you just said there's no improvement. Heck, I was watching a hockey panel the other day (when Tippett was hired) and one of the guys was saying that the Coyotes have enough young guys on that team that there's definite room for improvement and that they're on the cusp of being a playoff team.
So I dunno....Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Broke Yotes!!
I've one of the few Canadians that will come out and say Hockey can still work in Phoenix. A ton of damage has happened to the franchise but if the Coyotes were a winning team, I believe the people would support the club.
The problem is that the on ice product stinks. For all their Top 10 picks the past decade, they have a done a terrible job of drafting and developing their young players.
If Hockey can be successful in Carolina, I don't see why it can't work in Phoenix under the right owner/front office.Comment

Crappy teams still work in markets where fans are rabid for a particular sport.
Maybe Phoenix would have worked if the team could have become a winner, but I don't know.
I look at places like Columbus who sold out 3 straight seasons as an expansion team before fans started getting ticked with poor performances. But even then they averaged more fans than the Coyotes.
At some point the NHL has to stop putting teams in poor hockey markets. They can say "Winning cures all" but you can't have 30 winning teams every year. Eventually you're going to have down years in every market. You just hope they're strong markets to last a handful of bad seasons.Comment

The Lions had 51 straight sellouts before the fans finally stopped coming in protest.

As I've said before, the last 10 years have been good for Sun Belt teams from an on-ice perspective (Cup wins in Dallas, Tampa, Carolina, and Anaheim) while traditional hockey hotbeds, with the exception of Detroit (and Pittsburgh last year), have gone home empty-handed. LOL! See ya Balsillie!
I guess I feel sorry for the Canadian hockey fans who really thought he was going to bring them this team. But ultimately it was a delusional dream... sorry but no U.S. Bankruptcy judge is going to supersede the wishes of a league and give a team to an potential owner they reject.
Oh well, one more year of hockey in AZ... then it's off to Vegas or Kansas City where hockey will flounder again. Too bad too since the team finally has a real hockey coach.
