I'm getting NHL2k2 tomorrow
I've been wanting to get this game for a while. I have read nothing but praise for this game and how it played like real hockey. I just didn't want to pay $40 for it. I know, I'm a cheap ***. Anyway, my local FYE has it on sale for $19.99 new. I will be getting it tomorrow.Tags: None -

Re: I\'m getting NHL2k2 tomorrow
Went and got my copy of NHL 2k2 for $20 today. Can't believe some stores are still selling it for $39.99. I picked it up to get an idea of what NHL 2k3 is going to be like.
The game is very good. The defensemen stay back when your team is going up the ice with the puck. There aren't a lot of breakaways in this game like EA's NHL series. This game plays more like real hockey. I played 2 entire games thus far. I won the first game 2-0 and lost the second game 4-2. You have to work for your shots and play defense. This game is great and I really can't wait for NHL 2k3.Comment

Re: I\'m getting NHL2k2 tomorrow
I've been thinking about picking it up for a while now, I just don't want to pay 30-40 bucks for it. My friend has it, so I know its a good game, but he won't let me borrow it from him. Hopefully it'll go on sale here soon.Comment

NHL 2K2 is an awesome game gameplay wise. They need to work a lot on atmosphere and graphics for this year which they are doing. Gameplay is awesome.Comment

Re: I\'m getting NHL2k2 tomorrow
Yea hopefully sega can create better graphics and player models especially the goalies.
Hopefully they will really take advantage of xbox and screw the ps2.
Needs: 1) Better player models and scanned faces especially goalies and pads.
2) Better crowds--waving white towels, chants, music--should have import music feature in xbox version.
3) Glass that shakes, sticks that break, more deke moves, individual skating styles, hard hits but not unrealistic.
4) DD5.1 sound---music, chants, hits--realistic sounds, pucks hitting boards and posts.
5) Better franchise mode like 2k3 football.Comment

Re: I\'m getting NHL2k2 tomorrow
For the benefit of those who haven't followed pronouncements from Treyarch:
Although I'd be satisfied with just only one part of one area on your list being improved if 2k3 shows as much ambition to improve on-ice as the typical VC-led game does from year to year ( that hitting the post 'ping' in 2k2 is just blah when it should be one of the most thrilling individual sounds in sports. Of course, following it up with an incredibly realistic "OOOOOoooooohhh" from the crowd in surround sound would be even better.
), they are supposedly fixing many of those things.

3) Glass that shakes, sticks that break...

I wouldn't expect sticks that break for quite a few years. The developers have stated it would require a lot of effort to get it (and the similar issue of lost gloves) right. NHL 2k3 is supposed to be entirely physics-based, with no simple percentages involved.
So, the game would have to calculate precisely whether the force of a shot would break a stick; that player's AI would have to realistically figure out what to do (head for bench or play without stick); every player's AI would have to take note of what to do concerning stick fragments on ice; etc.Comment
