    Interesting comments regarding the Rangers

In an effort to get ppl posting in this forum I will throw out some stuff i've heard recently. I'm paraphrasing from what former Leafs asst. GM Bill Watters has been saying for the past 2 shows on a Canadian hockey show. (Hockeycentral)

He's basically saying that Eric Lindros is not putting up the numbers and playing well like he did in Philly because he (Lindros) feels stifled by the fact that Messier is the captain of the team and that Messier leads the team. Watters thinks that what made Lindros so good in Philly was that he was given free reign to be a leader on the ice and in the dressing room.

However, Lindros isn't able to do that when Messier has the ear of Glen Sather and using his influence to get the ice time of a 1st line player when he (in Watters' mind) should be a 4th liner and allow Lindros to lead on the ice and in the dressing room.

    Pretty interesting huh?

well, i agree that Messier should be strictly a 4th line center at full strength, with the bulk of his minutes coming on the specialty teams

however, Lindros is not now, nor will he ever be, the answer for the Rangers....im not saying he doesnt try, and im not saying hes completely washed up (yes, he is).....what im trying to say is, i find myself rooting for his next concussion, plain and simple....i dont want him brain damaged, i simply want him gone, way gone, outta NY....flyer reject ratbastard that he is

Lindros was never a leader here in Philly. It seems he was given captaincy because he was our best player at the time, but by no means was he a leader. And as for him being a Flyer reject, yes that is true, but aren't the NY Rangers home of all NHL rejects.

Mess has been overrated ever since he left the Rangers for the Nucks.....
He isn't even that great of a leader anymore, IMO

Hes certainly well past his prime but I dont think playing on a team of money hungry greedy players like Nedved, Lindros, Bure and such is taking anything away from them. He still brings something to that dressing room those guys cant. Hes still top 3 in scoring all time and a great leader like no any. Im biased being from Edmonton lol but I wonder if players will soon see him as a crusty old man with waining skills and flapping gums and not the player he is in history?

One thing I know is like Jordan, Lemeiux or anybody Im not going to critiscise him for playing the game he loves. He can play till hes 50 and it wont tarnish the image of the great player he is, Its funny how ppl say ah retire already, as far as im conscerned the man can play tills he ready to quit.

To bad he will miss the Oilers Heritage game though. An Oilers dream team isnt complete without Mess.

yes, we collect others castoffs like theyre going out of style (said thing is, they are LOL)....im probably in the NYR minority in hoping for a salary cap....this "philosophy" of ours sucks, it hasnt worked, wont work and need to stop ASAP...Neil Smith started it and devastated the farm system, and for some reason Slats, God of Edmonton, hockey genius and guru, has continued it..and for the life of me i have no idea why

oh, and i never said Lindros was a leader, he was made into one, mroe by hype and media than anything...ill give him this, with the right linemates, earlier in his career, the man was an awesome force....however, we dont need him in NY...he doesnt have the game for this city...i believe this is the last year of his deal, trade him for prospects if anyone will take him (im probably dreaming on that one)
