So apparently Vinny Prospal is going to sign a series of 1 year deals with the CBJ until he retires, then will take up a position in the organization afterwards.

Kind of...confusing but whatever.

I'm guessing both he and the team want him to remain until he stops playing but the team wants to avoid being on the hook for a multi-year contract should he retire before the contract is done as he is over 35.

I hope the NHL will allow both teams to wear solid colors in the Winter Classic next year. The blue and red would look awesome.

Next Winter Classic announced today:

Toronto vs. Detroit @ "The Big House"

This should help the rebuilding Detroit effort. The Winter Classic drew an unexpected amount of love and attention here around Philly. Made me happy. Hopefully it does the same for the city of Detroit.

I'm also happy that the NHL actually put in a new team, and it's Canadian. Moderately shocking.

Not often you get good news on the NHL's decisions.

Next Winter Classic announced today:

Toronto vs. Detroit @ "The Big House"

I'm already making plans, although it will be tough for me to stomach going into enemy territory (U of M). Like Larry David going into a mosque...

Not sure why they aren't doing it at Comerica, or somewhere actually in Detroit, though. I guess just because the Big House's 100k+ seating? They know they'll sell them all out, so might as well maximize the revenue I guess. Still, it won't showcase Detroit (Ann Arbor is about 45 miles from Detroit) and Ann Arbor isn't even in Wayne County, so I'm not sure this will help the city's economy at all...

This should help the rebuilding Detroit effort.

Ann Arbor is quite a far ways out from downtown Detroit, so eh, not really. But the media does seem to like to lump any team in the southern half of Michigan into their "this is really helping Detroit through their rough times" angle. It's been beaten to death, and frankly, sorry Detroit, but you aren't the only one hurting these days.

The game will be at the Big House, but they're going to be doing stuff at Comerica Park leading up to it.

Yeah all the pregame events are going to be in Tiger stadium.

It's just the Leafs/Wings game that will be played at Michigan.

They're setting up two rinks in two separate locations for this.

Yeah, I feel you. Detroit is home for me, and even I'm sick of the "everything within 100 miles of Detroit is helping lift the spirits/economy"....as I mentioned, Ann Arbor isn't even in Wayne County (where Detroit is), so it won't even help the city indirectly.

I don't care about either team but I'm interested in going to the Winter Classic. I cracked up at some of the jokes about how the hotels have already jacked up their prices and now it's going to be cheaper to just buy a house in Detroit. How long of a drive is it between downtown Detroit and The Big House?

The average price of a detached house in Vancouver is over a million. What's the average in Detroit? 100K?

The NHL has to put some limits on the ticket buying or else over half of the crowd will be cheering for the Leafs.

I can't wait to see Burkie on 24/7 assuming he doesn't pull a Sather.

Totally love how refs won't reward players a penalty shot even when they're on a clear breakaway and get hooked......

Oh, and Antti Miettinen is worthless.
