LOL.. you are correct.. he was keeping them a float from the looks of it. i hope he takes the Ducks to the promise land in the next few years.

Bruce, my pal, my apologies.. Fat Ted and Georgie Boy must be the main issues!!

Teddy and Georgie just beat it into his head that nothing matter but beating the Penguins.. LOL..

has a team like the Caps, that was so high and mighty fallen this flat this quickly before?

I hate the loser point, but I'll take it tonight.

I missed the game because I slept entirely too long. Shame that Pavelec's insane 50 save performance and the Jets finally getting that PP going couldn't get them 2 points.

Imperfect comparison, but the Leafs' post-lockout thud (which continues to this day) comes to mind. They were woefully unprepared for an NHL that suddenly valued youth, speed and the necessity to spend your money wisely.

#Sabres are 18-11-2 when 6 of 7 top D play, allowing 2.48 GA. They are 8-16-5 in other 29 games and allow 3.41 GA.
SMFH. I am really, really sick of injuries screwing **** up for every freakin' team I root for. Still no excuse though. Nobody has been able to score with any consistency or volume aside from Vanek and Pominville.

Things that need to be changed ASAP:

            1) Loser point only awarded for shootout loss.

            2) Division winners get lumped in with all the other teams for determining playoff seeds. Get rid of the "top 3 spots reserved for division winners" garbage.

Re: The Official 2011-12 Regular Season Talk Thread

Random musings while peering at the current NHL standings...

                EAST
Top 6, possibly 7, teams look to be good to go (minus the #3 spot, where it's a dogfight for the Southeast... I'm pulling for WPG but FLA wouldn't hurt me). What's up with New Jersey, though? They're streaking at 8-1-1 in their last 10. Damn it, it was great to not have to care about them last year as they tanked, but it looks like they're back. Best spot for my Flyers to finish would be #6, to play the #3 seed. That's basically the #1a seed. I don't want Pittsburgh in the first round, I don't want Jersey, and I don't want Boston. But we'll have to take 'em sometime so... let's exorcise those Penguins demons, if we must.

                WEST
Detroit and Vancouver are going to finish 1 and 2, in whatever order. Didn't realize it was such a race for the Pacific Division... whatever happened to the Sharks being a top flight team? Maybe it's good for them to not finish so high and mighty and have such lofty expectations. But I'll LOL if they get overtaken for the division. I think it's a damn shame that right now, STL and NSH would face off. Poor Nashville... they always get these tough *** first round draws. Still, they got their cherry popped last year and I think they should make it to Round 2. I'm hoping they make a deep playoff run. Now is the time! LOL at the Wild slipped so far, and I can't believe Phoenix in fighting for a playoff spot AGAIN despite all the BS with ownership and everything. I just feel bad for them and any of their fans. Finally have some good seasons, and still likely get moved. Just do it already, it seems inevitable. I had no clue Atlanta was so close to moving, then it happened so quickly. It's amazing how long this Coyotes thing has dragged on.

                  1) No no no. Taking away the loser point for OT but not for the shootout would be disastrous. Teams would make absolutely zero effort to win in OT and simply wait around for the shootout (that's pretty much what they do now, but this would make it worse). The best option is to remove the loser point entirely: 2 pts for reg/OT win, 1 pt for shootout win, 0 pts for all losses.

                  2) I'm fine with this, but that would require a complete elimination of divisions and a balanced conference schedule, and I don't see the NHL ever going for that. The "4 conference" format that the NHL proposed (and will be probably be in effect for the 13/14 season) is probably the closest we'll see to this.

Yes, this would be even better.

Too many teams play for OT now just to get their "pity point" when a game is close in the 3rd period.

Must-win for the Avs tonight at home against the Kings. Looking forward to seeing the new line of Landeskog-O'Reilly-Duchene and if they can produce some offense.

I thought you were suppose to get better as they age if you're a defenseman? Doughty sucks, same with Jack Johnson. Stefan Elliott still can't defend anyone.

It's LA for me, Capitals started great but then that's when Green went down. Nicklas Backstrom has been injured as well and their centers are **** outside Backstrom. If those two are healthy, no way they are this bad.

LA is fairly healthy, but they just can't score.

Well, the Avs certainly played like a team that needed a victory. Great effort and they swept the Kings in their season series.

Only 2 pts. out of the No. 8 spot now.
