Re: The Official 2011-12 Regular Season Talk Thread
Eh, NHL refs do alright for the most part. I used to complain about calls a lot, but there are games where the calls go your way, and the games where the calls don't go your way. It's always easier to remember the games where they don't go your way.
On another note, Pens better get their **** together defensively and in the net. That was a terrible loss to NYI especially since we outshot them 54-25 I believe.Pittsburgh Penguins

That's the problem. There shouldnt be that variation. And balancing out doesn't make it something to gloss over.
It's an epidemic in all sports. Tough to make better, but an epidemic nonetheless.Comment

they will be alright, they just played what? 14 games, 13-0-1 etc.. thats not easy. a loss or two wouldn't be a bad thing.
last nights game reminded me of the Preds game. the Preds should have had 10 goals.. the Pens last night should have had 12 LOL.Twitch

BUT... we know this going into the games. If you know you're going to get screwed over at some point, it's not as shocking when it happens.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

How does Vancouver prevent another Canucks riot?
It is an interesting question. I'd like to think the majority of people there would be smart enough to know how ridiculous that whole scene was last year, but really who the hell knows.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Being from Montreal, I've witnessed this kind of thing quite a few times. Heck, in recent years, there have been at least 2 occasions where there were riots, albeit smaller than what Vancouver had last year or in 1994, after a first round series win. Of course, I don't recall this kind of thing happening after a loss here so the Vancouver situation might be different.Comment

If the Canucks had won or lost in 6 games, I don't think there would've been any problems whatsoever. Because there was a finality about SCF Game 7, downtown Vancouver became a mecca for idiots everywhere in a 4-hour radius. Vancouver's LRT (Skytrain) runs on the honour system (yes, you read that right) and has very little security, thus there were tons of young people streaming downtown all day, with tons of booze and God-knows-what in their backpacks. Downtown was teeming with noisy drunks before Game 7 even started. Because June 15 was a warm sunny day, most people with a brain knew there was going to be trouble, win or lose. (If it'd been up to me, I'd have shut down all govt liquor stores immediately after Game 6 ended.) City government, on the other hand, was extremely pollyannaish because of the positive Olympics experience, ignoring the facts that a.) there were 10x the number of cops present, b.) the gold medal game was noon on a Sunday, and c.) Canada won. They rolled the dice, and we lost.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. (No)Fun Fact of the Day:
St. Louis has allowed 147 goals in 77 games. Assuming they don't give up 17+ goals in their last 5 games, the Blues will be the first team since the 1955 Leafs and Wings to allow fewer than 2 goals per game in a full season.
I'm equal parts amazed and appalled.

For the health of the game, every non-Blues fan should be rooting for Hitchcock's team to suffer a grisly demise in the first or, at the latest, second round. Anything more will usher in a new era of dead pucks, traps, and obstruction.Comment

Re: The Official 2011-12 Regular Season Talk Thread
they do need to play better defensively, but a lot of their breakdowns are in the o-zone not careful with the puck. that leads to the odd man breaks obviously and even just the d being in a tough spot to get back.

@slickdtc Sure, they miss some calls (a lot). But I think the get into a lot of trouble in trying to get "makeup calls" and such. This place is going to be a trainwreck come playoff time, however. People gonna be bitchin' about the refs non stop and how "the refs/NHL/bettman don't want (insert your favorite team here) to do well in the postseason."Pittsburgh Penguins

I realize as a Redwings fan it's nature to hate on St Louis and vice versa but I think you're being a tad bit over dramatic.
