Yeah, I don't really think it was BS... their 4th line was out, yeah maybe the hit didn't NEED to be done, but I really have no issues with it, either. That'd be like saying anytime someone makes a big open ice hit is BS. They're done for effect. It was 100% clean. Briere got rocked, straight up.
As for the Flyers being notorious for intimidation... meh, just about the same as every team. Then again, when it's Flyers/Pens, you do see a bit more of the dumb, after the whistle stuff. Flyers will never be able to shake that reputation of the 70's no matter how saintly they act (not saying they are... but I've seen plenty of cheap stuff from other teams on our players and other teams on other teams' players). When the games are out of hand, it's a dick measuring contest. One team gets super physical to show they're tough even if they are losers in the game, and the other team is on high alert, trying to get out healthy but also not back down from the other teams physicality. I kinda hate that stupid balance, but it'll forever be in the NHL. Until someone gets killed by the dirty, cheap bull**** that often happens at the end of games and it's taken seriously by the league that, yeah you can be physical, but you can't take runs at guys no matter what the scoreboard says.
