I don't disagree about his personnel decisions. I think he is too quick to make rash changes.

I'm so glad I don't live in Colorado anymore for the simple fact that the monday morning quarterbacks used to annoy me so much.

My biggest issue is when they started hot I never I saw anything from you saying he needed to be removed but all of a sudden he does?

I think he deserves a little more than a month and a half before we make rash decisions.

What do you really think a new coach would do to this team to improve them?

I didn't post on here, but I did post on another site about Sacco. I wanted him gone last year but was willing to give him this year because everyone was injured.

When they were winning, it's not like they were outplaying most games. Pretty sure Ottawa game was the only game they outplayed the opposing team.

Also maybe the new coach will bring in a new system. More defensive one than there is right now. His system is the old Capitals where they try to outscore you every game, but Avs just don't have the offensive talent to win 4-3, 5-3 game against good defensive teams.

They won't tolerate this.
There's a difference between taking a few seconds to let your forwards get open and standing still for 30+. Personally I think it's being blown out of proportion as really you don't see what Philly did the other night vs Tampa often. At least I haven't.

It looks like the point Laviollete was making has worked.
Several NHL players and GM's have contacted the NHL saying that they fully agree with what the Flyers did.
In fact, Bob McKenzie said they spoke with 13 GMs' and 8 of them said they want to make the 1-3-1 illegal.
And the NHL is now going to discuss looking at rules for preventing boring defenses.

The trap has been around for a long time. The problem is, players are much faster now than they were in 1975, so they can cover more ice faster making traps far more effective.

Dr.Jones is right that Olympic style rinks aren't coming. And the more I think about it, that won't help either because teams would simply run a 0-4-1 to cover more space.
It could actually make things worse.
That's why I think if they did something radical such as no zones, or only 2, or a hybrid of the two might be an answer.
          Example:
Remove the red and blue lines and place thin lines above the offensive circles.
Once you carry the puck beyond that line, you're good to do whatever you like. It forces the other team to forecheck.
Or just have a red line? Not sure that would make things worse.
But I'd like the NHL to figure out a way to make use of all the ice they have instead of chopping it up the way it is now.

Dr.J, I love the idea of an extra point for teams that score over 5 goals. Love it!
Would a losing team also get a point in a 6-5 loss?

And you know how I feel about no points for losers. This needs to be done.
But the NHL will never allow it because they love the false parity they've created by handing out 3-point games.

I hope these GM meetings coming up produce something. Even though it doesn't seem like it, I'm not opposed to defense. Not at all. It's just that when the pendulum has swung almost entirely in the defense's favor, there needs to be a correction. There needs to be balance.
Superstars today aren't paid $8M a year to be a farm horse. Let those guys run. That's why they're paid the big money - to produce offense.
And I still don't see how having a handful of 50 goal scorers, or even a 70-goal scorer is bad for the league.

No. My first rule of sports is: losers get nothing.

I don't want any impossible-to-enforce "zone defence" penalties introduced. Make things simpler, not more complex. Take a hard look at the changes I proposed above. No new penalties. No changes to the zones. To the naked eye, the game will look exactly the same as it always has, except coaches will be forced to stress offence over defence and teams won't be "hanging on" for OT or a shootout any more, because there will be no benefit for doing so. Win win.

Yeah your proposed changes aren't so bad, minus the +5 goals one, not big on that idea but still. The idea of outlawing defensive schemes to me is just flat out ridiculous, play the game, dump and chase, win some puck battles. That's hockey, not sitting in your own end refusing the play the damn game then crying about it.

Teams play to win, defense wins games and cups. Enough of the mamby pamby we need to create all sorts of rules to increase scoring otherwise the game is teh boring crap. If anything increase the size of the nets/reduce the size of tender equipment.

Hawks lead the Flames 2-0 through 2 periods. Emery has been outstanding so far.

Sooo....apparently we want to take the crown for worst team in the league from the Blue Jackets.

In the Jets' defense, they did just come off a 7 game road trip, go home for one game, and then went back out onto the road again.

                        Still though....the Blue Jackets.....

Jeez....see I hate the NBA anymore, but they recognized that making a judgement call on if a team was playing a feigned zone was just simply done away with by letting a team play zone.

Put in the damn "backcourt" rule in hockey. Oh and hey, how about instituting better training courses for your officials so they aren't the brunt of the conversation especially at playoff time.

Quick 2-0 lead for Chicago. Toews and then Montador. Montador saved a goal on one end and then deked the goalie on the other end. It was rather surprising but very impressive.

3-1 after 1st period. Montador has 2 goals and Leddy has 2 assists.

This is some fun up and down hockey. I love it.
