Bertuzzi obviously didn't intend to cause as much damage as he did, but hey, he broke somebody's neck and ended his career with the cheapest of cheap shots after the whistle. There was an element of bad luck, of course, but it happened. Moore has permanent brain and spinal damage while Bert still gets to play in the NHL. I don't think Bertuzzi should be harassed about the incident outside the rink (aside from Moore's civil suit, of course), but being booed in opponents' rinks is more than fair.

BTW, did you feel this way before Bertuzzi became a Wing? How do you feel about Claude Lemieux? How would you feel if Lemieux's hit from behind had broken Draper's neck and ended his career?

Lemieux is different, he didn't get booed everywhere, just Detroit. If his hit broke Draper's neck and ended his career of course I'd hate him, but that's still from the angle of a Detroit fan. If I was a fan of the Panthers and Lemieux had broken Drape's neck it wouldn't be the same.

To be honest I didn't think much of Bertuzzi before he came to Detroit, I have a bad habit of watching only Detroit games until the playoffs (unless they're on NBC). I thought of him as the skilled power forward who pulled a dick move that resulted in someone's career ending. I thought the McSorley play was worse, but Bertuzzi's had greater consequence. I'm not even sure if the court case is over yet, wasn't there some rumblings that Crawford told Bert to get Moore back?

I'm not trying to defend him like he's a great guy or something, don't know him personally, I'm just surprised the hate has gone on so long, and it basically will always be remembered as the defining moment of his career.

Bertuzzi should be in jail, not on a hockey rink. Simple as that.

Crap, I knew the Flyers missed something when they were looking at Bryzgalov. Apparently this pic escaped them during scouting....

Bertuzzi didn't exactly have a sterling rep before the Moore incident. But yeah, it's pretty much a case of 1.) Bert can play, Moore can't and 2.) unlike most cheap shots of this magnitude, this was post-whistle. If Moore had been able to resume his career, the incident would be largely forgotten outside of Denver.

Criminal trial is long over, Bertuzzi got a suspended sentence, no criminal record (which I agree with, BTW). Civil trial is scheduled for Sept/Oct (Bertuzzi had filed a countersuit against Crawford, but it's been recently dropped). Bert better get his checkbook ready.

They obviously didn't watch Bryz mail it in against the Wings in last year's playoffs either. He was pretty awful. Luongo's deal should've served as a cautionary tale against goalie mega-deals.

And especially in this damn city where goalies go to die.

It's not even like Bryzgalov is THAT elite of a goalie. Yeah, he's put up some good numbers with just a decent team in Phoenix, but he is not on that same tier as guys like Lundvquist and... I don't even trust any goalies really.

There's like 2 or 3 guys (of which I can't even name.. shame) that you can spend that money on as a goalie. The rest is just revolving cycle of good, bad, and ugly.

It's about catching lightning in a bottle with goalies. You need 16 wins out of them when the playoffs hit and that's it. They can be lights out for 82 games but if they don't put it together in the mini-season of the postseason, then I'm sorry, I don't want you. Remember, this is coming from a Flyers fan, a team that always makes the playoffs but falls short every time. I'm not worried about the season, that's a formality, I'm focused solely on the tournament at the end of the year. That's why we pay the guys we paid, period, nothing more.

Pekka Rinne is doing pretty good since Nashville gave him the big long-term deal. He was second in wins last time I checked.

Predators would be in second place right now if they were in the Eastern Conference. Instead they are fourth in the West due to the stupid "top 3 seeds are division winners" rule.

I have only seen them play a few times, but I think they are going to be a dangerous team come playoff time.

Rinne's contract is more defensible (though ultimately may be a mistake as well) for the following reasons:

                            1. Rinne isn't a known flake (as Bryz has been since his Anaheim days)
                            2. No change in system or market for Rinne. Phoenix was a D-first team. Zero expectations from media or fans. Major culture shift for Bryz to go from there to a pressure-cooker in Philly
                            3. Unlike Philly, Nashville has trouble attracting major free agents, and needed to overpay Rinne to give them a shot at retaining Weber and Suter
