At the beginning of the year or then end? Because I haven't seen anyone pick the Wings to win the cup after their regular season. Heck, most people I've seen are taking Nashville in round 1 over the Wings.

If you want to pick someone different, put a dollar down on Phoenix and a dollar down on Smith and hope to get lucky.

Seriously, though, that is ridiculous...it's 2012, is it? Just a few years short of the year that Marty McFly went to from 1985 in the DeLorean? No flying cars, but we do finally have every NHL playoff game on TV in the US. And video games with better graphics, I guess...

              Lots of good stuff today:

              - Bill Barnwell's guide to Betting on the Playoffs:

              - BS Report Mega Playoff Pod (with all my favorites: Simmons/Baker/Wyshynski plus Joe House and Bucci)

              - A Huge Version of The Stanley Cup is now in Times Square
              http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=627354

              - Even Mike Francesa had over an hour of hockey talk yesterday on WFAN. Bettman was on and Francesa said if the Rangers make it to the 2nd round, he will go to a game with Bettman.

              - Melrose is going to be a guest on PTI today and there will be a Playoff Preview on Around The Horn.

              - Stanley Cup Coverage is on every major website/newspaper/blog today. All of this is in the USA. I won't even bother mentioning the Canadian stuff.

Re: The Official 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

I just checked the ESPN Radio page and it looks like the Stanley Cup Playoffs wasn't even mentioned during their 3 big shows today. A major sporting event is starting tonight and they don't even mention it .......... lol

Off the top of my head, I don't remember a single Hockey Guest appearing during Mike and Mike last season despite the fact a team from a major market (and a city ESPN loves) won the Cup.

Nice to see so much coverage for the NHL in the US. At least the sport is starting to see an upswing in coverage even if it's baby steps. Now let's hope they don't screw it up and have a work stoppage next season.

JP's impression of Tim Kurkjian is so money, I can never get enough...

It's gonna be weird watching hockey on CNBC - is there gonna be a stock ticker crawl across the bottom during the games? I half expect Jim Cramer to come busting out between periods telling people that they should "Sell! Sell! Sell!" the losing team...

Only need 1 if they win all their home games. Can do it against the Preds.

Outside of ESPN Radio, the Stanley Cup coverage in the USA is terrific. Like I mentioned, it's covered by basically every major sports outlet.

I actually spend more time on ESPN.com than TSN.ca or Sportsnet.ca for Hockey coverage. ESPN employs 2 of the best Hockey writers in North America (ESPN-Pierre LeBrun, Grantland-Katie Baker).

Two least penalized teams in the league, and five penalties already between Detroit and Nashville. Thanks for showing up to the game, POS Bettman.

Oh, and Darren Helm cut his wrist. SWEET.
