I think if Boston wants to get rid of that cap number, they need to give a good prospect to just dump Thomas's cap. I don't know about NYI nor Phoenix, but Avs have no problems reaching the cap floor. They have 9 RFA, and I'm sure 7 of them is coming back for sure while Wilson and Porter are questionable.

Re: The Official NHL 2012 Off-Season Thread
It was a good move for the Pens. I guess Vokoun really wants to win a ring, as he could have gotten much more money from a team who needed a goalie in free agency.
The Thomas situation is interesting. I think if you suspend him, you don't have to pay him, just deal with his cap hit. That would be glorious for a team with problems hitting the floor, trading for him essentially reduces the floor by 5 M.
Panthers have Jacob Markstrom coming up at some point. They'll probably stick with 1 year stopgaps if they want to delay his NHL debut. To think, Holland to McCollum over Markstrom and Voynov. We could have really used Voynov too, him and Smith could have easily slided into the top four with Sutart and Lidstrom leaving.Comment

Michel Therrien back to coach the Montreal Canadiens. I can't believe it was back in 2003 when he was first fired by them. Success with PIT before being fired and replaced by Bylsma, who of course went on to win the Cup with the Penguins that season.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: The Official NHL 2012 Off-Season Thread
since then, it has been 100% Discos d system, lets take a look..
2010 - second round loss (Habs)
2011 - first round loss (Bolts)
2012 - first round embarrassment loss (Flyers)
Therrien just needed to let his guys forecheck more, combo that with his system that was in place, they were freakin beasts to play against. obviously, won a cup.
now, with that said, the d personal hasn't been the greatest, but it hasn't been the worst either. Disco and GMRS need to get that addressed this off season.. no excuses!!Twitch

Re: The Official NHL 2012 Off-Season Thread
Looks like Nashville is trading Radulov's rights, isn't really surprising. I thought he was gonna go back to KHL and come back in couple years and become a UFA anyways.

Re: The Official NHL 2012 Off-Season Thread
Yeah Nashville is shopping Radulov's rights to other teams right now trying to get something in return. If there are no takers, he probably goes back to the KHL:
Radulov, through his agent, conveyed to us that he’s negotiating with the KHL, but that he’s also keeping his options open to staying in the NHL. Thus we have reached out to some teams in the NHL to see if there is any interest; our thought process in that is that Radulov is an asset and if we got something for him in the form of draft picks or younger players, we’d be better off. If none of that happens and he goes back to the KHL, we still retain his NHL rights and never say never on another chance.Comment

I wonder if Holland would give Radulov a shot if some of the other goal scorers resign with their teams.Comment

Re: The Official NHL 2012 Off-Season Thread
Huh? Really? There must be something I'm missing here, because from I can see, the Avs overpaid to keep him in Colorado since they are desperate for goals scorers and wingers. I can't imagine him getting much more than that on the open market.

Jones is also not a liability in the own zone and played during the PK after we traded Winnik and Galiardi. Jones has to play with Stastny all year though, he and Stas has chemistry together and I think Jones can get back to 25+ goals as well. I also think Mcginn-Stastny-Jones line was the best line for us down the stretch.

Why would anyone want Radulov? Talented yes, but when things don't go his way, he'll just go back to Russia. Not worth trading pieces for him.Comment

Re: The Official NHL 2012 Off-Season Thread
I do think Avs overpaid, but only by 500K or so. I think he's worth around 3.5M per year, but I could see him getting 4.5M per year in the FA market. Outside Parise and Semin, theer isn't much. If Ville Leino gets a 4.5M per year after scoring 19 goals in one year, a guy that scored 27 2 years ago and 20 this past year can get 4.5M. Also with the cap rising, don't think 4M is that bad.

As far as Radulov goes, I think our coaching staff and locker room can get him playing well. He is obviously an dynamic force on the wing and we could use another goal scorer. If Babcock used him intelligently, like giving him mostly offensive zone starts and not trying to fit a square peg into a round hole like Nashville tried, I think it would work out for everyone. I would not give up anything significant, but maybe a 5th rounder like Philly traded to us for Leino would be worth a gamble.Comment

I never wanted Leino at all. Ugh. He picked up a BIT towards the end, but....smh....waste.Comment

Re: The Official NHL 2012 Off-Season Thread
Doubt it matters, if it came down to it I don't think Nashville would trade him to a divisional team just due to if he does get his head on straight he can hurt you. I think they'd let him go back to Russia before dealing him in the division unless its the Bluejackets.Favorite Teams:
