It did say in the article that at the insistence of the NHL they will not change their name. But by then, who knows.

Yeah, I know but as you say things change and um Brooklyn Islanders? That doesn't exactly roll off the tongue easily.

Its still better than moving to Quebec City or Kansas City
Im actually pretty happy about it. Who knows, maybe its a temporary move until they can get a new rink up on the island?

Coming from a Flyers fan, I'm very happy about the Islanders having a new home. Maybe this is a step forward for the franchise.

They'll have to do something about the configuration of the arena for the sake of sightlines.

I don't anticipate they'll have much difficulty attracting fans. I have a bunch of friends living in Brooklyn now, and there are so many gentrified, well-to-do areas that there should be plenty of disposable income. Park Slope, where the arena is is full of young professionals. It's very reminiscent of Toronto west of Bathurst and south of Bloor these days, but on a larger scale.

Yeah I get confused about all of the different boroughs and where they are and which teams they root for.

Too bad for Islanders fans they can't get rid of Charles Wang and Garth Snow.

Can't be worse than what they're doing now...change is probably good here.

I will be very interested to see what they do with the seating charts, how they adapt the stadium...they'll have to do something.

Yep. I dont even see why they would have to change the name to the New York Islanders.

Wow. As you might gather from reading my previous posts, I'm stunned by this turn of events, but glad to be wrong in this case.

Hopefully this works out for the Islanders and their fans. Happy to hear they're keeping the traditional name/colours.

Not suprised at all by this move. The part that sucks about this is it looks like they will probably need to renovate a 2-3 week old arena already. I wonder who is going to pay for that? I can't imagine them keeping the current configuration. I would link it but I am on my phone but I am pretty sure I read they signed a 25 year lease.

Not just the seating arrangements either...apparently they'd have to add hockey-specific locker rooms as well.
