Re: The Official 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

Pens got what they deserved again. nothing!

they honestly deserve to be down 3 games to 1 with the way they have played.

kudos to the Islanders for wanting it more.

Game 5 changes IMO. Vokoun in, Fleury out. Not that he is the main problem, but its a must Vokoun to start. Iginla to Sids RW, Dupers moves to LW. Kunitz back with Neal and Gino. Id also sit Glass and get Kennedy back into the lineup. Get him a shift or two on the 3rd line as well. Sure Glass kills penalties, but they still have 36, 24, 9, 14, 87 to do so. I would also sit Eaton and let Bortuzzo get in the mix. This kid plays the game with heart, desire, passion, yet cant play over some of these guys. IMO he will be a good one in 2 years.

Cant wait to see what this team is made of over the next few games. Will they fine their game? Or not?

I see big changes if they lose in this round and even next. Dan gone, and one of Letang, Fleury, or Malkin gone. Maybe two of those 3.

good thing they dont get paid for playoff hockey.. if so, they should have to give 70% back to management. LOL.

positive out of all this? can the Pens actually play any worse? i dont think so.. with that said, for as easily they could be down 3 to 1, they could be up that as well. hope they pick it up.. very very soff right now!

2011 Canucks -- 1 win away from winning Stanley Cup
2012 Canucks -- 1 win total in playoffs against #8 seed
2013 Canucks -- 0 wins total in playoffs against #6 seed

All with pretty much the same group of players.

And oddly, they continue to dominate the regular season. Two President's Trophies and three division championships in there.

Fleury's a fraud, been saying it for years! Malkin wants to do it all himself, too. He's a distant Robin to Crosby's Batman as far as I'm concerned.

i wouldn't say Fleury is a fraud.. the greatest goalie in NHL history (whoever you think that is) would be doing the same thing for the most part. the team d in front of him has been terrible at best. just like last post season. they played very well in regular season in general team d wise, stuff thats going on this year, like last year, did not happen in any of the 48 games. its amazing to be honest. bc watching them play the last 4 games makes me wonder how they won 36 of 48 lol.

now, is Fleury a head case? i was a strong supporter of him not being one, but im starting to change my tune. with him throwing the puck out of his net and his equipment like a baby after game 2 made me lose some respect for him. Malkin as well, showered up and left after game 2 before media could speak to him. thats 12 year old baby stuff. if those two were legitimate team leaders, that dont happen. suck it up, admit you played poorly and that the Islanders deserved it.

talk about a fraud, ill give you that if you talking Fleury being any type of leader. same goes for 44 and 71. maybe thats the Pens problem? these so called team leaders/vets, are weak minded and cant get it done now?

                    I don't think Fleury's a fraud, but he's ridiculously streaky. When he's on, he's a brilliant reflex goalie. When he's off, he's a train wreck.

Same core players as 2011, yes. But far inferior depth. Ehrhoff and Salo on the PP, Malhotra's faceoff excellence, even Psyblast's buddy William Tell were key contributors to the 2011 Canucks, who were legitimately dominant.

I was going to say, Vancouver didn't dominate anything this year. They won a terrible division by 4 points because they had 4 more shootout losses than the Wild. You could smell this series loss a mile away. Maybe not a sweep, but I didn't expect it to go 7 either.

As for Fleury, Pens fans can deflect blame all they want and some of it might be warranted. However, it's really hard to see them ever winning it all again with him as their #1.

He was back to his old ways Monday night, sniping those lasers that hit the glass, and ducking out from the middle of the ice to hide in the corner instead of getting physical in front of the net.

                          He's a gem, I tell ya.

As for the Penguins, I've made it no secret that I'm not a fan of Fleury at all. Even in their championship year when he was "on" in the playoffs, he had two players in particular who played in front of him and saved his bacon in the Finals. These two individuals left after that season, and the Penguins haven't advanced past the second round since.

I'm not going to name them, because just thinking of them makes me want to see them take a slapshot to the groin.

This first round has certainly illustrated what a big, fat mess Canada's goaltending situation is going into Sochi. Good grief.
